Hey people,.

I got a domain that is the name of a famous music artist. His name that he goes by is a stage name...I think. I don't think he goes by his real name. Shocker I know.

First question is, is that illegal? As far as I know he has no patent on his name. The guy wasn't smart enough to get a URL with it, I doubt he thought to trademark his name.

Any issues with that?.

Second question is, should I park it and maybe earn a little something? The dudes name gets a crap load of views, at least in the millions.

I feel like I'm sitting on a bomb....and I love it.

What should I do?..

Lite it and watch it blow up!.

Hopefully, not in your face though.

I own a typo of a well known rapper.

Back in 2006, the name was making $3k a month in parking.

I still own the domain, but now rev is so low you can barely see it..

Yeah, but isn't it technically not squatting? Even if you own the exact name?.

I don't think I'd earn much from parking but I've never parked a site before and wanted to try it just to see. But I don't want to get a C&D notice.

I want to make sure I'm in the right...

You may as well develop it as a fan site and praise him. And then put some affiliate links (Amazon, EPN etc) to his products (CDs, posters etc)..

Fan sites work well, but as soon as you start putting adverts/affiliate links and such on the site you start to hit dodgy ground as you are then potentially making money from this persons name...

The best advice regarding trademark names is to delete them or let them expire without trying to make money from them..

If you are new to domaining, take it as a learning curve. Most of us made the same mistake when starting out, you just have to take the small loss and move on..

Consider the anti-cybersquatting laws,if you have half a dozen Tm domains, or even a hundred, just I successful prosecution can cost you $xxxxxx, which is far more than you would earn from them. You would also be branded as a cybersquatter...

You have already branded yourself as a cybersquatter and will be liable for 100K as soon as you are sued if you attempt to make ANY money on it. You are already guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud according to Title 18. Yes a felony crime punishable by fines and 20 years in jail. I will let you do your own legal research in Title 18 to find the criminal code but I will narrow you down to Chapter 63.

This is generally ignored by the law personnel now but will be very soon.

Whatever you do, Good luck..
