White Spots in night sky pics
I just came back from Disney and took my new G9 with me. I took some pictures at night of the illuminated castle. The sky was pitch black yet I have some white faint spots in some of my pictures. The spots are not in the same location in each picture. It wasn't raining that night. Any ideas? Thanks...

If you used flash it could be dust particles.........or perhaps lens flare from bright lights,..... which is internal reflection and scattering of light inside the lens housing. If you could post a sample it would be easier to determie........Regards,Hank.

If it wasn't rain or fine drizzle, my bet would be small flying insects caught in flash light..

Which Disney location was it? I'm thinking Florida is still warm enough for nocturnal insects on the wing... maybe [??]Regards,Baz..

I agree, that's even more likely considering the bright lights. They'd probably show up with or without flash......Regards,Hank.

It is difficult to tell exactly. These shots look like they were taken at high ISOs and perhaps over a longer duration than one would normally shoot, so any aberrations would be emphasized..

They dont look like hot pixels. They look a liitle mopre like sensor dust, but that too seems unlikely. What they mostly look like is spots of water on the lens or filter. Were you near a fountain?.

They could also be particulate matter on the font of the lens. They could be some sort of weird les flare caused by the illuminations. They could be something that was too dim to be noticed with the naked eye but that has shown up due the loon exposure..

The largest spot does seem to be in around about the same position in both images though..

Definitely a result of the flash of the camera lighting up small dust or moisture particles floating in the air. Because they are so close to the lens, the specks are totally out of focus and appear as circular patches. I've seen this result from camp-fire smoke drifting in front of the camera, the particles causing the effect are really very tiny.Regards,Peter..
