Which P&S to get?
I am a current /img/avatar4.jpg of a CanonA95. Unfortunately my camera now suffers from E18 syndrome (http://www.e18error.com/); so I no longer feel like I can trust it, in case the problem reoccurs. Which is sad, because I really like my A95..

So I am in the market for a new P&S, and I am overwhelmed. And I do NOT want to buy Canon (why should I give them more of my money when if it were not for their hardware problem, I would not be in the market to buy a new camera??!!!).

1) My main requirement is image quality: I mainly use my camera when traveling, so I want a camera that takes good outdoor photos in cities, nature, and landscape..

2) I am also concerned with colour accuracy..

3) Pixels, digital zoom, size are less important..

4) I would like some manual controls.

I have been looking at:Fujifilm Finepix F31fdFujifilm Finepix F50fd.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K (*seems to be favoured for it's zoom, which I care little about)Nikon coolpix P5100 (*but the complaints about slow focus concern me).

Am I overlooking any models? Suggestions? Concerns?.

Thank you very much!..

Good start, those are respected choices. For fun also take a look at the Olympus Stylus 840, Nikon Coolpix S600, and Sony H3. Both the Olympus and Nikon are brand new designs, so no tests available yet. The Sony is well known, boasts full manual controls..

So wide angle and compact size will be high on the list..

Fuji F100fd (wide-angle 5x zoom, good IQ & resolution). Panasonic FX500, Nikon P60 (good IQ, EVF, not wide enogh though)..

I have been looking at:Fujifilm Finepix F31fd.

No image-stabilization (desirable during travel)..

Fujifilm Finepix F50fd.

Not wide, CCD-shift I.S. less effective..

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K (*seems to be favoured for it's zoom, which Icare little about).

Excessive NR and lack of fine details..

Nikon coolpix P5100 (*but the complaints about slow focus concern me).

Valid concern..

Nevertheless Canon cameras produce good JPGs straight out of camera. These have good lens too. e.g. Canon G9, A650IS, SD950IS, SX100IS, A720IS etc.Best Wishes, Ajayhttp://picasaweb.google.com/ajay0612..

Less effective than optical (lens based) image-stabilization. Although still better than one without any I.S...

Check out the Sigma forums here at Dpreview, and take a long hard look at their new DP1. The Sigma forums have plenty of sample images. If you're looking for good image quality and color accuracy, for landscapes and nature, the DP1 might just fit your needs..

The DP1 looks like a REALLY interesting camera, but it's sadly far out of my price range.... will start an interesting new breed of cameras though! If only I could wait.....
