Hi,.

What do you exactly mean by "very detailed photos from small distance"? Macro photography? If so, then maybe you'd need to buy some macro lenses..

And to the EOS 400D - I'd go for EOS 450D as it has better, stabilized lens in standard kit...

Yes, thats what I ment. But Canon Eos 450D I think will be too expensive and too advanced for beginner...

I think that if macros is what you're interested in, you should stick to a good p&s (a compact camera, that is). They have amazing macro capabilities, and with good light their image quality is fine. They're easy to use, too..

If you get a DSLR for macro purposes, be prepared to spend some very serious money, for a camera that you'll have to learn well in order to get results..

Thank You,.

I am actually willing to learn about DSLR so some day I can take professional photos. But maybe for now I should stick to compact one, which one from compact cameras would you suggest with a good macro, I was looking at Olympus SP-570 UZ, Nikon P80 or Panasonic DMC - FZ18/50,.

Thanks for help,..

If you are interested in a superzoom theres a great review by Popphoto that compares Panasonic FZ18 vs Olmpus SP-560UZ vs Fuji S800fd. The FZ18 won in just about every category. I think the Olympus came 2nd. I don't recall anything specific about macro shooting so you want to check other reviews..

Hello Marta,.

My advice is that you should look at the Olympus E-420 or E-510 with the two kit lenses..

Olympus are great cameras and most important the kit lenses are much better than those from other brands..

The Olympus Four thirds system as many advantages like the lenses perform better and are smaller, they have also the best sensor cleaning system, and many other nice features..

Check this:.

Besides Olympus is a very well trusted brand, they make the best glass also for scientific applications..

Those compact cameras are great but you have less image quality.

Anyway if I choose a compact camera I will go for Fuji S100fs ( good and bigger sensor, bigger camera but very good ) or for the Olympus SP-570 UZGod is the tangential point between zero and infinity.

To add to this the Olympus line has 2 exceptional macro lenses , the 35mm & 50mm @ $200 & $400 respectively, the 50mm is one of the sharpest lenses produced by anyone. there is also the sigma 105mm that allows a bit more working distance than the 2 already mentioned..

The 50mm is regarded as a very capable portrait lens due to it's sharpness getting you great bang for your buck..

A new or used Oly would serve you quite well in this regard...

Yes and the 25mm f/2.8 is the smaller normal lense for Olympus.
