Which camera? XTi, D40x, or A200?
Hey DPreview,.

Needed some help in choosing my first SLR and the main 3 I am looking into are the XTi, D40x, and the A200! So hopefully some help will make my decision clearer!..

What made you narrow it to these three? What are you going to shoot? Have you handled any to the cameras personally?.

JimOlympus E-510 and a bunch of stuff to hang on it...

It might help to start with reading any of the myriad of threads that are like this that beat this to death..

After doing that you will most likely find the most consistent advice is to buy the one you like as anyone here can make an argument for any entry camera out there..

In the end it almost doesn't matter as any camera from oly, pentax, sony and yes even nikon and canon will take a great picture with the right person behind the view finder..

Hit a store, pick a budget to stick to, identify the features you really want and buy one and then join the forum for the camera you bought to help you get the most out of it..

Relax, pick one as they all have their pros/cons and enjoy taking pictures...

A200 provides better value due to it's in-body I.S. But you should be ready to buy a good lens to go with it..

D40x would be better if you buy it with VR kit lens. It nudges ahead armed with AF assist, sopt metring and ISO3200 option. For lens kit it is better value..

XTi would require an investment in good lens. Its kit lens is not among the best out there..

Nevertheless Pentax K200D with 18-250mm lens will be all inclusive package and good value with in-body VR.Best Wishes, Ajayhttp://picasaweb.google.com/ajay0612Thanks for your time...

If you are going to throw in the pentax, you need to throw in the e510. great kit lenses, one could argue the best value, dust reduction that works, a kit worth looking at if reviewing ALL of the entry cameras..

Seems the canon/nikon pros even think highly enough of the oly e510 to recommend it to people with a sub $1k budget.

Regardless review ALL of them for handfeel, ergonomics, features and pick the one YOU like as they are all quite capable..

Good luck and just go buy one and start shooting.....

Well. E520 with twin kit lens will be better due to live-view, I.S. and better NR at higher ISOs (then E510). The package is good value standalone..

Nevertheless I would prefer to get as large a sensor as large/accurate and bright a viewfinder, as sharp a lens as I can get for my money. Hence K200D.Best Wishes, Ajayhttp://picasaweb.google.com/ajay0612Thanks for your time...

It's a good value regardless if it's what one wants....

Well if you want sharp kit lenses the oly/pentax comparo is a wash for IQ get past the kit lenses and the pentax will start fall behind save the fact it has more primes to offer. 50/f2 one of the sharpest lenses ever, 12-60 exceptional and it goes from there..

If you want sharp lenses, Oly is the way to go with few arguments to be had..

Enjoy.....
