Which camera to choose?
Help- My canonA630 was stolen. I have been trying to decide about which camera to purchase. I was just given the CanonSD850IS, but I can exchange it for a different model, if I wish to do so.I especially liked the 2AA batteries with the 630 for use all over the world , as well as the variable LCD. I know that the SD 850 has image stabilization, but I never found blurriness to be a problem with my old camera. I am debating if I should exchange the camera for the CanonA 640 or one of the CanonA560 IS, etc...

Peggy, I love my A640 and would recommend it heartily. It is sightly more bulky, but the extra life you get out of 4 batteries is worth it. There's a long discussion on these forums about the A640 here: Moderator "Canon PowerShot A640 Discussion" 6/12/2007 8:50am Ham.

I'm really a beginner. I'd like to buy DSLR camera... but actually I'm still awful in using SLR camera. Because I bought the second-handed Braun camera (with 28-70mm Macro Zoom lens) just 2 months ago... and (honestly) I'm still confused when I hold it (there will be many silly questions in my head, like "which diafragma I use? how much is the speed?" or other stupid thoughts....). I'm interested in Nikon D40X, because it's quite cheap and my friends said that Nikon is the best quality in DSLR camera.

Except those... I don't know. And I'm only a first-year student of Visual Communication Design major in my college.I prepare the camera for the second yearwhich will be held 4 mounths from nowin Photography class. So... you can see that I'm totally blind in this kind of field! ;p Hope you wouldn't mind answering my question.

Umm... by the way... although I prepare it for Photography class next semester, I wish that I could be a professional photographer. But... I also don't have much money for buying any kind of Great DSLR camera (with extra LENSES) if it's bloody expensive....(to me). Thank you for reading my message...

(and A HUGE 'THANK YOU' if you reply it... ;p)..

Art, If you are going to study phtography, a DSLR would be good, obviously. There is nothing wrong with Canon and Nikon, but you should consider Olympus, especially if you are on a short budget. The deals you can get mean that you can get a twin lens deal for the price of a single lens Nikon or Canon. That means you would have all focal lengths from 28 - 300 (35mm equivalent) and that would be really useful to you. If you are a student, I think you should choose based on the best value. I really wouldn't worry about the make - they are all good. Ham.

Hi there. I got a Canon A640 and it is a very good camera for me. I use it mainly in architectural pictures and macro photographies. But I miss my film SLR (CANON EOS 300) and would like to buy a digital SLR. I look for a cheap good camera, easy to bring everywhere with me. I am thinking about the Olympus E 500 but I'll take any advice you can give me. (and please forgive my english...)..

Maeva, If you've already got lenses or accessories for your EOS 300, why not get a Canon Rebel XT or XTi? An XT with the kit lens is a real bargain these days, about the same as the E-500 kit, and you'll be able to use your old lens(es), etc...

Well I don't have many accessories for my EOS 300. So it could be the time for a change of brand. If I buy a digital SLR I expect to keep it for a long time and buy some accessories (mainly lenses). But Canon is surely a good brand and I tried the Rebel XT this week...
