what lens to choose ? 400d...
So I'm thinking of buying canon 400d but I really know nothing about the lens.....

Ill be shooting 70% outdoors: architecture,birds:),people and stuff ;] and some indoor portraits ....should I buy the basic lenskit 18-55 to start with ?or should I buy the body and something else ?i could spend 140-150pounds on lens( 300dollars )thanks !..

That's not much of a budget for lenses, so I say go with the kit. This will give you a chance to learn more and save up some money..

For the money you have budgeted, you can buy both the kit and the 50 f/1.8 and be set for both indoor and outdoor photography..

I agree with USACanuck - $300 won't buy a very good lens, but it will buy a good external flash which is as good as having another lens..

As for how much do good lenses cost - it depends. The 50 1.8 is a bargain at $75. But for most intents and purposes, 'Good' lenses - particularly zooms, start around $600 - a lot of good lenses in the $600-$1700 range. There are some 'decent' lenses in the $250-$600 range. There are exceptions to every rule and these figures are just a guideline..
