Waterproof Camera
Hi,.

I am looking to buy a new waterproof camera. Not looking to spend more than $400. I don't want a very large one, and DURABLE is the key word. I am constantly using it outdoors in the sea, etc. Any reccomendations would be helpful !K Mo..

I have an Olympus Stylus u770 which I take with me whenever I can't/don't want to take a DSLR, and it's a brilliant little camera! I recently took it on my trip to Thailand and had it in my pocket the entire time, never worrying about it getting damaged. It went in the swimming pool, swimming at the beach, and even scuba diving down to 10m. Maybe a DSLR would have taken better quality pics, but the key thing here is, a DSLR wouldn't have been there to take at least 50% of these photos..

The new Olympus u1030 I hear is even better. Got the same water/shock proofing as the 770 I have, but has a wider angle lens, making it even more versatile...

As others have said, Olympus have the camera(s) you need. Just remember one thing: I'm pretty sure they don't float. In other words, attach some kind of float to the strap if you'll be using it away from shore.http://flickr.com/photos/iskender..

I have had a pentax optio Wpi for about 2 years. I havent used the oly's but FWIW my thoughts on the optio are:.

- IQ is acceptable (6Mp)- zoom range pretty good.

- Shutter lag is about 0.5 secs (this renders the entire camera useless for lots of things)- Is waterproof, just like it says- Battery life is OK- No viewfinder & the LCD screen is unusable on sunny days.- has never given any trouble, after maybe 3000 photos.

OVERALL 6/10 Not a bad purchase, can do well, but frustrating at times..

But - may be worth looking at to compare with the Oly..

Good luck..
