I have some already ground up that I sprinkled on my oatmeal this morning. I used 1 tsp and it was yummy!..
Hey kris you can also buy it already ground up.. and just sprinkle in in things as brooke said..
How much of it is allowed per day during the weight loss phase of MF? Thanks...
I'm also wondering about this since I usually make muffins with it and I'm wondering if I can have several batches of muffins per day.
Also, if you are looking for flax to bake (like muffins) you can buy flaxmeal (I think it's by Bob Mills). I got mine at Whole Foods...
I have 1 Tbsp flax seed every morning, but I wouldn't say it's "allowed" on the plan - and by that I mean flax seed is not listed in the Medifast literature, nor specifically recommended by the nutritionists..
As I'm sure you've seen, 1 Tbsp flax seed is about 60 calories and 4.1 grams of carbs. For some people, those extra 4 carbs can push them above 100 grams of carbs/day and thus perhaps out of ketosis..
I, personally, like the benefits of flax seed, so I'm willing to adjust my other meals to stay under the Medifast recommended daily calorie/carb counts. For me flax seed is an "extra" - other than that I stick pretty rigidly to being OP (no snacks, few if any condiments). I also avoid higher-carb L&G meals, like veggie burgers or cottage cheese. And I eat mostly the lower-carb Medifast meals..
I hope this helps - but as always, your mileage may vary!..
1 tsp is allowed as a condiment option.. I mix mine with my oatmeal seems to keep me fuller longer and gives the oatmeal more texture. I also mix 1 tsp with oatmeal.. 1 tbsp egg white..1/4 tsp baking powder.. apple pie spice and enough water to make a batter and make pancakes with it..
~~Tracy~~..
"1 tsp is allowed as a condiment option.. ".
LdyDrkPhyre - I did not know that! (And HOW did I miss it?!!!) Thank you for the clarification...
