Uploading photographs
I would like to submit some pictures on this site but am having problems figuring out how to do so?.

Many people seem to be able to load their pictures directly to these message windows while some people have a link to their website or picture site....

How do you upload so that the pictures appear directly in this box as opposed to a link to flickr or pbase??.

Also, what size to people typically resize to before posting? Is this necessary? I use a 10mp camera....

Thanks..

"To embed an image or photograph simply paste (or type) the URL (web address) of the image into your message (eg. http:// hostname.com/image.jpg), images more than 480 pixels wide will be scrollable. To link to an image WITHOUT EMBEDDING IT simply add a semicolon (;) to the end of the url (eg. http://hostname.com/images.jpg)".

Host your photo's somewhere (i.e. flickr, pbase, etc.), find the URL for the image (on flickr go to the image page then click the all sizes button, select the image size you want to post and under the image will be the direct link, copy that link), and paste the link into the post. That's it. Post the message and the image will automatically show up..

I wouldn't post full size images. Maybe 1000 pixels on the long side should be plenty..

I have photobucket , post multiple pics all the time.you have to belong/be part of a pic hosting site on the web..

I have IE7, so I simply have the photobucket web site up with my pics open on 1 web page, and the dpreview page I am replying to open on another page. write whatever you wish, go to photobucket(left click once on the pic's url link to make it blue, right click select copy), then on the reply page of dpreview position the blinking cursor where you wish, then right click and select paste, the copied url link will appear. if you want the link to the picture put a semicolon after the url, if you want the actual pic-no semicolon. hit enter, if pc, to move cursor to next line. for any additional pics simply repeat...

You first need a host site , mine is at the bottom of this page, and it's free.you upload your photo' s to this site..

They display them and give you a link address or "URL", you will find this under your uploaded picture , under direct link..

As you right click you will copy this URL, then come to this page and past the URL onto this page..

An URL starts with http and ends with jpg, nothing on the front and nothing on the end.click on bottom left "Preview" and your picture should be there.OK then just click postits as easy as thathttp://s185.photobucket.com/.../albums/x223/eirianfa2002/?mediafilter=imagesMichael Edward Rudge..

With pbase you just need to add .jpgYou don't need the semicolon ;If you want a link instead of an embedded image, then add a semicolon ;.

...put together by one of the good guys on the Oly forum.....

And then start posting photos! But be SURE to use the preview button to know if it worked correctly or not. And a good viewing size is 800 pixels on the long side. Good luck!.

Thanks folks!!! It does work with the simple steps of pasting the url and .jpg. (I viewed it in preview). I don't know why it didn't before, maybe a slow server. Anyway I don't feel like a complete dunce anymore:)..
