Uploading a photo
Sorry for the basic question For uploading a photo, the site says to list the url of the image. So I assume any photo I would want to upload for topic has to be uploaded to another site (i.e. Flicker, .mac, etc.) as opposed to just embedding the photo off my computer. Am I missing something or is this correct. Thanks**MarkBurbank, CA..

I have photobucket , post multiple pics all the time.you have to belong/be part of a pic hosting site on the web..

I have IE7, so I simply have the photobucket web site up with my pics open on 1 web page, and the dpreview page I am replying to open on another page. write whatever you wish, go to photobucket(left click once on the pic's url link to make it blue, right click select copy), then on the reply page of dpreview position the blinking cursor where you wish, then right click and select paste, the copied url link will appear. if you want the link to the picture put a semicolon after the url, if you want the actual pic-no semicolon. hit enter, if pc, to move cursor to next line. for any additional pics simply repeat...

...that explains about needing an online site and then a step by step guide to posting photos..

And when you try it, be sure to use the 'preview' button to see if it is correct...then you can either 'post' it or use 'edit' to make corrections. Don't post till it's right and the picture shows up..

Good luck! And it's good to ask if you don't know....so feel free to ask anytime.LucyE- 510, 40-150 and 14-54 lens!U ZI owner!Olympus C30-20Zhttp://www.pbase.com/lucyFCAS Member #98, Oly Division'Photography is the art of seeing what others do not.'.

Hi, another newbie here. .

My problem is the following:.

I post a thread with an embedded picture, it shows up on the preview screen and then confirmed in the actual post. A couple of hours later I come back to the thread and the pictures have disappeared. It's almost like the file hosts are randomly changing the picture urls..

I have tried two file hosts; Picasa and Fotki. Same result. So what's the deal? Anybody had the same issue?..

....so cannot answer. May I suggest you ask this in a new thread and hopefully someone might have a solution. Good luck..

You might try a thread subject like: 'Help...embedded photos disappear ...'LucyE- 510, 40-150 and 14-54 lens!U ZI owner!Olympus C30-20Zhttp://www.pbase.com/lucyFCAS Member #98, Oly Division'Photography is the art of seeing what others do not.'.

Probably some urls are temporary only..

Picasa requires this procedure:.

1. Login to your picasa account2. Browse to the image3. Look at the right-hand-side of the page, click "Link to this Photo"4. Select the required size: small / medium / large.

5. Copy the "HTML to embed in website". You just need the part in the quotes after 'img src='. Delete the rest..

Example:.

Sorry about the post, I was looking at Picasa and may have cut/pasted the wrong string. I wanted just one image to show up in this post...instead it looks like a link... and I may have deleted the wrong part?Brian..

Perhaps I didn't explain it very well. The part you need will start with "http://" and end with ".jpg". If you are not familiar with HTML it can all look much the same and is easy to get the wrong part. What I think you should have ended up with is something like this:.

"http:// lh6.ggpht.com/azartguy/SCVDsvQqZdI/AAAAAAAAAQQ/U-OR1znX4h0/20080505_MISC%202_1_0079.jpg".

[note: I added a space after the "http://" above, to allow the text to display in full. Your version should not have the space there.].

... and it should show up as an image like this:.

Image control:Zoom outZoom 100%Zoom inExpand AllOpen in new window.

Edit: This seems not to work properly, perhaps I have the wrong URL since I obviously cannot log in to someone else's account. In one browser I see the image, another just shows a blank space, I have to click "New Window" to get to the picture..

Hope this helps at least a little.Regards,Peter..

Note: above a space has been inserted after "http://" - it should not be there. (Added only to display text in this message)..

The important thing with Picasa is to (a) choose the appropriate image size, and (b) copy the URL for the "img". Previous confusion was due to there being another link which was for the web page itself, not the actual picture. The link to the web page needs to be ignored..

Thanks for the clarification. Any suggestions on the "best" site for posting (picasa, flickr, photobucket, etc.) in terms of ease of use and/or image quality?Brian..

....you might find it helpful to do a 'trial' with one to see if you like it. Most sites offer a 'trial' period. I know pbase does..

You have an ISP, like Roadrunner, Earthlink or something. They all provide free webspace to host a homepage or anything. Put your images there. Then it's easy to look at them and cust the URI and post them here..

Moreover, it's free, included with the fee you're paying for internet service. Free always, and no image hosting site messing with your image names, compression, size or anything. They're your pictures..

I don't truly understand why anyone would use anything else, unless their ISP doesn't offer such space...
