Upgrading advice???
We have killed our PowerShot 75 and I have purchased a Canon S5IS but have been dissapointed with the noise issue. Then, the LCD went out within 60 days. I am returning it tomorrow. I like all the features but the noise reallly bothers me..

Do I get the same thing again and fiddle with ISO or get something else?.

By the way I never adjusted ISO, I just used auto on teh S5IS.

Here is what I want - I need a great all around camera for the family - a lot of action shots, short videos, nature etc. However, I want to be able to change lenses so we can connect to our telescope..

Help? Looking at the Lumix DMC-FX50 but it has mixed reviews for noise as well..

What fits this bill that is HIghly Recommended - I don't mind paying more if it gets me what I want...

I would go to $700 if that covered it...

You're asking a lot for a single compact camera to do it all.........you'll have to accept tradeoffs if you can find it..

All Pannys have a noise issue but use various levels of noise reduction which reflects by lost detail in it's pics..

If you can do without the video an entry level DSLR may be a good bet, but the S5, which has outstanding video, will produce noise at high ISOs like most compacts. For outstanding IQ and good video the G9 is a contender and perhaps the best Canon has in the compact size.Regards,Hank.

Yes, I've been tossing around the thought of forgoing the video and go to the D40 or something similar...

I tried a G9 and ended up taking it back to get a D40x. I loved the G9's "feel", quick start-up, controls interface, big live LCD, and macro capability. But, the image quality just wasn't there; it was very noisy and disappointing. I wanted good IQ and am glad I gave up the gizmo's for the great photos I get with the DSLR. I thought I would mind the difference in size, but no regrets yet..

I don't look for video in a still camera. I guess it's just a matter of time before we look for video, phone, datebook, calculator, watch, hair dryer, etc. in our camera!!!..
