The point and shoot variety of camera can take some very nice pictures..
I like the DSLR because of it's feel, the ability to control the shot, the availablity of very wide angle lenses and the ability to attach a powerful flash. I also like the hobby aspect of itbuying new equipment is fun....
I would buy a DSLR and one good lens to start. After that, add a new lens or flash as your budget allows..
Ed..
Where are you located? If those are USD prices they are all very high..
If you can take the extra size/weight, don't need video or built in macro the two lens entry model DSLR should easily outperform a super zoom image quality wise..

Thanks for your replies.I am located in Bulgaria and thats the best prices here.I will probably go for a DSLR.I like the Pentax k200d because of it's weatherproof, build in Image Stabilization and dust removal system. How does the kit lenses(18-55 and 55-200) compare to the rivals? Is it a good choice at all?..
There are two Pentax k200 dual zoom kits on ebay right now from sellers with good feedback for less than 700 dollars US..
For that price, you can't go wrong..

Sorry about the cross posting, yours popped up as I was sending mine. The kit lens is good to excellent, you won't dislike it at all. Also, keep in mind that Pentax still uses the same lens mount, so just about any lens you find that's K-mount will work. A warning though, some lenses have a tab that can lock the lens to the body, so double check before attaching any old lens to the body..
