Tripods
I need a tripod to use with long and heavy lens such as Nikon 500/4. The tripod is to use outdoors since I do mostly motorsport photography. Does anyone have a manfrotto that fits my needs and could give me a positive opinion about it and about a good head. I'm looking for the best not the less expensive..

Thanks and sorry for my bad english..

I think, Manfrotto 055 legs and Markins M20 ballhead would be right for you.https://www.photoproshop.com/product_info.php/cPath/21/products_id/29..

Are you sure you'll be allowed to use a tripod in the places you want?.

You might think about a monopod instead..

And if you get a tripod consider a bal head, or one of those pistol grip style ball heads with the handle, making it fairly easy to pan while using the tripod..

Thanks for the reply. I was really thinking on that legs and type of head, my concern is does it suport the height of a heavy lens as a 500 and SLR camera as a D2X well? Thanks.

That is why I'm asking for an opinion regarding a tripod, all my life I've been photographing with monopod without ballhead (I have two Manfrotto one aluminium 681B and another in Carbon MagFib 694, that's why I would prefer that the tripod would be a Manfrotto). Now I'll need to try the use of tripod because I need to try other sports.Thanks..

Before I purchased my 055 legs, a salesman demonstrated it to my with a huge and heavy canon lens of about 8 pounds together with a cam. Sorry, but I don't remember the model. We tryed different ballheads and gearheads. The legs had been very stable. And as long you don't use the center column instead of extending the legs it will held the weight.Regards, RogRabb..

You need a gimbal head on a solid set of legs. A ballhead won't work well with a 500/4. Have a look at these:http://www.tripodhead.com/products/wimberley-main.cfmhttp://www.jobu-design.com/catalog/item/2588354/2040327.htm.

Thanks Dave,.

I already have that Manfrotto head and use it on a Monopod (I think it is great, excelent thinking on money for value)..

I ordered the Manfrotto/National Geographic NGEH1 ballhead and a Manfrotto O55PROB legs (for the moment). I'll soon see if my choice was OK..

Thanks again for the help given..

The Bogen 3265 for sure would not be stout enough for a 500/4 lens (I've got a 3265). I'm not sure the 055 legs would handle it either..
