Thinking of an SLR....
Hello everyone. I'm not new to photography, but I am to this site. May the newb slaying commence .

Anyways... I'm thinking of getting a dSLR... I've had quite the chance to shoot with quite a few cameras over the years.. such as:.

Kodak Star Motordrive (eh, had to start somewhere...).

RCA Digital Camera (1.3 MP... not very good, hated Serial Connection and TWAIN software)Pentax K1000 (for a brief brief time, but great camera).

The two I still have access to are:Fuji Finepix 3800 (really, a decent camera, sorta).

Canon AE-1 (my father's, but still in brand new condition even after all these years).

Now, I've been thinking about the Pentax K100D or the Olympus Evolt E-500, mainly because they are cheap and they seem to be good performers. A Canon may not be out of the picture, but out of the two I listed, I'm leaning twords the E-500..

To throw a wrench in the works... I have two excellent lenses for the AE-1. Both are Vivitar FL/FD mount lenses. They happen to be:Telephoto Lens: 135mm f2.8Wide Angle: 28mm f2.5.

The stock Canon lens is the one I use normally, and it's fitted with a Hoya HB-2 filter (IIRC). Along with a few various flash units, filters, and mounts, it's a pretty good SLR setup. However, if I even get a Canon dSLR, will these FL/FD lenses work? It may make me change my mind about the Canon lineup..

However, what do some of you think of the E-500? Should I look at some Nikons as well? The four thirds system doesn't bother me, I know that they make some really slick lenses for the four thirds systems..

Also I haven't found much on the E-510 other than it's going to take over the E-500 so some help on that would be nice (pricing and spec's)...

No. And the flashes won't work either..

The E-520 is coming, so watch for the E-510 to drop in price..

I had a feeling about that, so it's nice to know that I can have a clean slate to work with (but at the same time, lenses aren't cheap... but oh well).

How soon?..

Nobody knows, or if they do they aren't talking. Olympus UK accidentally let it slip a few weeks ago on a web page about in-body stabilization, which mentioned the E3, E-510 and E-520. They quickly "fixed" the page..

What's the secret, the e510 has in body IS as does the E3 and the e5xx replacement will continue that trend. I haven't seen any ETA on the e5xx..

The Oly forum here at dpreview is going to be a great place for you to get the answers to your questions you are looking for. E510's are going for low $400's used and are available from keh.com used and new for good prices as well as e500's..

I bought my 50-200 from them and have been quite happy with their service..

E1 w/ grip, e510, e300 w/ grip, 8mm FE, 14-54mm, 35mm, 50mm, 40-150mm,50-200mm, fl-50, fuji - 6800..
