Don't expect it soon. Probably be real tight for a couple of months as per Nikon's usual plan. Expect it to be about 2-3 times the price of the 5000. Also you have to use their ED glass lenses to get the best picture quality...

I have just heard about the new D100 too. Sounds perfect. I have just bought the Coolpix 5000 as well. The word I have from my camera supplier is approximately 2 months and about double the 5000 cost (in Australia that is about $AU5000 (US $2500)for the D100. Less than half the D1x so I am very interested. I am eagerly waiting for a discussion group to start so I can keep up to date as the US is always ahead of us.

Does anyone know if my SB26 flash will be TTL? It is not listed as one of the preferred flashes but I am hoping. Fingers are crossed for this camera. Regards Carol (Western Australia)..

With Canon's EOS-D60 just being announced with a $2199 price tag, Nikon would be hard pressed to be much higher, given that both cameras are meant to compete against each other. Found in another forum elsewhere that the Canoga Camera web site has the Nikon D100 listed at $2999 even though Nikon wasn't officially announced a price. And I'm sure Canon's announcement has drastically altered Nikon's pricing plans...

I have a significant stock pile of Nikon AI manual focus lenses. I wonder if the Nikon D100 will work with these. The compatible lenses listed are "AI-P" and "D-type"...

According to the Lantern Guide on the N/F 80, the SB 26, although no longer manufactured, is compatible with the N/F 80. Big question is, if I buy an N80, a flash, and some lenses, and then buy the D100 in 6 months, will everything work right with the D100. Everything I have read is that the D100 is based 'loosely' on the N80...

If you're not interested in ttl operation, then sure, the SB-26/28 is 'compatible' with the D100...

D100 will not be available until the middle of June at the earliest. They will most likely be a competitive price to the canon d60. AI lenses will not function properly on the D100 since they require manual aperture adjustments. The use of AI lenses hinders most of the advanced features of all new Nikon SLRs...

I bet the D100 will not be available until August. Just a hunch.

The D100: With USB, NOT Firewire, and no X sync socket, and only a1/180 X sync, this will be their "starter" Digital 6 megapixel camera....which means.

The "D2" will have a CCD or CMOS or Fovean chip which will be physically.

Film size! At last, a 20mm willl be actually be 94 degress corner to corner !.

And not the 30mm it is now on the current Nikon D cameras !.

And the D2 will have an accordingly proportional increase in file size!! ....I am just guessing (dreaming). Andy W...
