Super Zoom Advice
I was planning to get a DSLR , but I have dropped that idea considering the amount it was adding up to. Hence moving towards the next best thing. My budget is around 250 dollars.. Perhaps I can bleed to 300. Right now the only viable option I see is the FZ8 by panasonic and the S6000 after a rebate. I donot wish to go in for a used one.

I am not exactly sure on the what specifically I'll be shooting. I have been doing some macro , portraits on my friends C663 and I love it. So that and mainly structures + landscapes. So there, I think it's pretty much everything out there .

Cheers!PS: Love to shoot in B&W!..

Oi , that's great news ! Much appreciated!.

But given that will be working with it for a while , I just don't mind shelling out a little more to go in for a better package! Any more suggestions ?

Seeing as you are panasonic inclined...the fz50?.

Hi liam..

I have no particular affinity to panny. Just that , it's the only make which gives a good performance ratio for the price I can manage (300$). I am open to any other makes as well..

The Z50 looks great , but it's off the budget .

Cheers!..

Haresh..... in a later post you said the FZ550 (currently around $450 new) is out of your budget. And you feel you can spend more than $229 for the FZ8. So I guess this means you want to spend about $300..

Don't expect miracles at that price..

You might want to consider buying a used camera. I purchased my own FZ30 used for $300. Sometimes cameras are traded in for no good reason, other than the owner wants a newer one. Just like buying a late model car used..

I've noticed that used FZ30s are selling for between $250 and $350 right now on ebay..

The same thing applies to cameras by other makers, like the Sony H3, the Canon G7, or any of those great Fuji cams..

The Kodak Z712is (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/kodak/z712is-review/index.shtml) is also in your range. I have not used it myself, but for the money it looks decent. Rgrds, Kevin..
