Sugestions Please!!!
I am looking to purchase a camera with a higher optical zoom than I currently have on my Panasonic DMC-FX01 (3.6X I believe). I am a amateur photographer and enjoy taking pictures of wildlife, flowers, landscapes - AKA nature; but have found myself VERY frustrated with the zoom limitations (though still getting great photo's). I am torn between 2 cameras; the Sony H50, and the Olympus SP-570. The features that are most important to me are: Image quality, shutter speed, optical zoom, and image stabilization. My first choice is the Sony H50, but am hesitant because of the 15x optical zoom. Both seem to get very good reviews 4.5 out of 5 for example.

Please help, I am going on vacation to Yellowstone & Glacier national park's next week & would like to finally make my decision before then..

I appreciate any suggestions....

Thanks in advance...

Olympus cameras are known for their great color, and if you check on the Oly Forum, folks are posting photos from that camera there....you might like what you see..

Good luck with whatever you choose..

Another thought might be to go tohttp://www.pbase.com and look at sample photos from the cameras you are thinking of.LucyE- 510, 40- 150, 14- 54 and ZD 35 Macro lensesU ZI owner!Olympus C30-20Zhttp://www.pbase.com/lucyFCAS Member #98, Oly Division'Photography is the art of seeing what others do not.'.

If by "shutter speed" you really mean shutter lag, then big advantage to the Sony on that score..

The cameras you've chosen will be okay, but have a look also at the Panasonic FZ18, which most think is the best compact superzoom at the moment. Getting the Sony means buying memory sticks and switching from the Panasonic menu system you're already familiar with to one that many reviewers find annoying..

The Nikon P80 may also be worth a look..

I would agree with Androo..

Before making the leap to DSLR, I had (still have) a Panasonic FZ5 which has a 12x zoom. I absolutely loved it and was always pleased with the results - I think it compensated for some of my user errors! I actually just posted a shot I took with it when I did my very first post last night - see Did my post work?.

If you're already familiar with their menu system, which I found quite easy and intuitive, then you'll hit the ground running if you went with the big brother..

Cheers.

Good advice..

With Sony also comes excessive NR and compression especially at high ISOs. Oly also use excessive NR at higher ISOs. FZ18 has the best ultra-zoom lens currently. Raw mode simply lifts it up to podium. For JPG image Nikon P80 is good option..
