SO disappointed!
After a few of you helpful photography geek types put me on the right track for an estate agents camera, I have been desperately trying ot get my hands on a Kodak V570 or V705. I am in the Uk and France, not USA. Two days after ordering and paying for one and then receiving my order confirmation froom Amazon.co.uk, I received another mail saying it was out of stock. I then found one on stock at Maplins - so I ordered it and, surprise surprise, I have just eceived an e-mail saying it is discontinued. I see that there are a couple available on US sites, but I don't think I can buy from here (I've tried it with Kodak and Amazon). Can anyone help?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Victoria...

Hello again,.

I had a look - there is one on ebay US and it looks like they'll ship it over to me. What do you think?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190167495764.

Is it safe enough to buy a used camera from eBay from so far away? What do you think the maximum I should pay? (bearing in mind, the Euro is quite string so it's no too expensive for me anyway)Thanks again nickleback x..

Seems reasonable. Contact the seller and ask ow much to ship to your location..

Put it on a credit card (through paypal), and then you'll have two ways to get back at the seller, through paypal's complaint process, and through a chargeback on your credit card..

What do you think the maximum I should pay?.

That's up to you. It was a $250 camera, if you can find it anywhere that is..

A good possibility, and easier to find where you are..

I had to re-read your original post to see why you were looking for the Kodak ( to see if I could find you an alternative )..

In all conscience I have to say I think those Kodaks would be woefully poor choices..

You specifically stated you need low light capability and they simply would be awful. I would say, even for a compact, they would be awful at low light..

If you must get a compact for low light get a Fuji F30 or F31fd. These lack the very wide angle but, for a compact, they simply have no equal in low light. If you absolutely need a wide angle you can add a wide angle adapter..

However ANY entry level DSLR would be better. If you are concerned in particular about the wide angle issue have a look at a K100D and something like a 16-45 zoom. Bare in mind that wider angles than this tend to have considerable distortions - you're heading for fish-eye lens territory..

The 18-55 kit lenses equate to about 27-78 is 35mm terms. This is actually quite a wide angle..

Regardless, please rethink the Kodak choice. I feel the Kodak would be completely wrong..

As regards outlets, have a look at pixmania.com. I've bought from them and they are actually based in France, as far as I know. Prices are usually pretty good..

Great, now read the thread. If you did, you'd see why she settled on the Kodak, or another compact with a very wide angle lens..

In all conscience I have to say I think those Kodaks would bewoefully poor choices..

In all conscience I have to say I think you don't understand the choices..

You specifically stated you need low light capability.

Use a tripod..

Besides, to do interiors well you need to add light, to balance out the shadows (under furniture, in corners, etc) and the highlights (sunlight through windows, reflected off oil paint, etc)..

If you must get a compact for low light get a Fuji F30 or F31fd..

No wide angle..

These lack the very wide angle but, for a compact, they simply haveno equal in low light. If you absolutely need a wide angle you canadd a wide angle adapter..

Poor choice when usable cameras with wider angle lenses exist..

However ANY entry level DSLR would be better..

I agree, but the OP doesn't want that. The Kodak or Ricoh really are the best choices given the needs of the OP..

If you are concernedin particular about the wide angle issue have a look at a K100D andsomething like a 16-45 zoom..

Out of OPs price range. Will give similar angle as Kodak. If she was going to spend that much money, better to get 10-20mm..

Bare in mind that wider angles thanthis tend to have considerable distortions - you're heading forfish-eye lens territory..

Much of that distortion is from perspective, which has nothing to do with the angle of the lens, and everything to do with distance to subject. With interior shots, as long as you don't place a piece of furniture close to the camera (especially on the edge of the frame), you'll be OK with perspective..

The 18-55 kit lenses equate to about 27-78 is 35mm terms. This isactually quite a wide angle..

But not as wide as 23mm..

Regardless, please rethink the Kodak choice. I feel the Kodak wouldbe completely wrong..

I think the Kodak is not the best choice, but it is a good choice considering the needs and budget..

24mm equiv. Probably far superior to the Kodaks. $300-ish on Ebay...
