Snap-on lenses?
There's any number of add-on lenses to give you magnification or wide angle which simply snap or screw on to your existing lens. What's the experience with them? Useful? Junk? In between?'It's easier to get forgiveness than permission'..

Yes.-).

All CU lenses are not the same, so the quality varies. There are two types: single-element and double-element. The 2-element type is called acromatic, because the two elements are different glass types which allows them to be color corrected. Good acromatic CU lenses are quite good..

How do they perform vs. a regular lens, since they're so much cheaper?'It's easier to get forgiveness than permission'..

This is obvious to me and it may be obvious to you...I can't tell. CU lenses MODIFY the FL of the existing lens. They are like when you wear a pair of reading glasses...they don't improve you eyes, but they allow your old eyes to focus on closer objects..

Anytime you ADD lens elements you reduce the IQ to some extent...so when you ADD a CU lens in front of a lens (to enable it to focus on closer objects) you reduce the IQ. If the CU lens is a cheap, uncoated, 1-element lens, then the resultant IQ will not be very good. On the other hand, if it is an expensive, multi-coated, acromatic lens, then the results will be excellent..

BTW, some very high quality acromatic CU lenses are VERY expensive!.

You've misread the question Charlie. Wide and tele adapters are what the OP was asking about, not close up...

The Nikon lens are expensive but, you get what you pay for. The 900 series are good if you can get them also the Canon series are fine...

If you're referring to use on your E510, don't waste your money on them. They're designed for use with digicam lenses. If they worked well at all on a Dslr lens we'd all be using them instead of spending the money on proper lenses and converters...

Thanks. Yes, I misread the OP's question. Sorry..
