So, I was very excited about starting Medifast until after I ordered a month's worth of supplies and then read about the side effects. Bad breath? Saggy skin?? Regarding bad breath, I did Atkins years ago and LOVED it, never felt hungry, but couldn't live with the body order. I'm not sure if it was from eating so much meat or if it was from being ketosis. And saggy skin-yikes! I'd love to hear from Medifast users who've been around for awhile..

Hmmm. bad breath? None here that I can say. I guess that is a possible side effect of ketosis, but the ketosis that you acheive on Medifast is so mild, I haven't experienced any side effects.

As for saggy skin, I suppose that is a potential problem on any weight loss plan if the individual is losing significant amounts of weight..

For me, when I reach goal having lost over 150 pounds or so by that point, I am not going to complain about some saggy skin!! .

Everyone's body is different and so my best advice is to see how you react. I personally love this plan and have so far (fingers crossed) not suffered any annoying side effects. Except maybe, having to dash to the potty alot...I drink alot of water..

Besides hunger and muscle cramps I didn't experience the side effects you mentioned. I believe that if you drink more than enough water and exercise a modest amount you'll be well off..

Hi and welcome to MF!! You made a fantastic choice! .

Let me start by saying SOME people MAY experience these temporary side effects. Lets look at bad breath. Yep, sadly I can say I have that. Who cares? I cant smell it, my husband has mentioned it a few times. What do I say? "Would you prefer a fat wife with good breath or a skinny wife with TEMPORARY bad breath?" He shut up..

In regards to saggy skin? That depends on alot of factors. That is NOT CAUSED BY MEDIFAST! That is a side effect of genetics mostly, and being overwieght then losing it. Just like some women dont get stretch marks when they get pregnant (I was not so lucky, but my Mom has none after 5 children ). I dont really have saggy skin. And besides, a little sag or fat? Hmmm, SAGGY-ALL DAY LONG!!! Again, who is going to see it if there is some? Not many people. My Dr could care less....

DO NOT let these MINOR side effects, (that may or may not happen to you) that could occur on ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLAN derail you from success and finding the healthy, thinner and happier you that is WAITING TO COME OUT!!!.

I'm dealing with dry mouth which is another relatively common one. It's an "inconvenience", but whatever..

Also, my eyes have felt really dry lately- anybody else? Or is it just unrelated? I guess that perhaps all my mucus membranes are more dry? (ok, I'm just going to come out and say it, my boogers are more dry than they used to be).

HI there!.

I don't know where you read about these side effects, but they have not been a part of my Medifast experience. Both my father and I are on the plan and have not had bad breath at all. I have lost 38 pounds and have no issues with sagging skin, I drink half my weight in ounces of water and moisturize my body daily, perhaps that helps? Either way, it is an amazing plan and you should not let these non-issues deter you. Good luck and congratulations on finding a plan that works!.

I have not experienced the bad breath but while I was de-toxing I had the worst BO ever. I used 3 different anti-persperant/deodorant and baby powder just to cover it up. After a couple of weeks that was gone. I have lost 57.4 lbs. and no saggy skin. Shoot, if something happened and I did end up with it, there's doctors that can take care of that. I would deserve it..

Welcome, Sassyhope.

If you are young and don't have too much weight to lose, you might be able to tone up your skin quite well without any sag. I had my three daughters in my early to mid twenties, and never had a problem getting back in shape within a matter of weeks. I was young and only gained on my belly. My skin stretched to accomodate a full term newborn three times and my abdominal skin tightened right back up in no time at all.

Even if you have a significant amount to lose and are successful, from what I've read, you need to give it a year, exercise, and you'll see some improvement. But skin isn't a piece of elastic that will snap back to being tight if we've overly stretched it too much for many many years. If you lose a significant amount of weight on Medifast, Atkins or on any diet, you will have loose skin.

My 55 year old hairdresser lost 90 pounds and tucks her loose tummy skin into her jeans. She wears 3/4 sleeves to hide her hanging skin under her upper arms. I had no idea until she told me. She was quite petite when I moved and began to use her services. She looks great and decided that surgery is not for her. She's a lot healthier at 125 pounds then she was at 215 and proudly wears a size 4 or 6.

It works if you work it. Many of us have done it and/or are doing it. You can too. Wishing you the very best..

Marie.

Only about 6 weeks but I did have one day of bad breath. As for saggy skin, that has absolutely nothing to do with Medifast or any other diet. Saggy skin from large, quick losses have to do with genetics, age, exercise... I lost 133 lbs before and had muscle definition everywhere on my body. I don't expect anything to be different with MF..

I haven't experienced an of those side effects. I do get constipated on this diet but stool softners help. I also pee constantly because of all the water I drink (about a gallon a day). It's way worth it though. I've already lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks and it's such a simple plan to follow..

I hope you follow through and give it a shot... you've already got the food....

I'm not aware if I have bad breath...hubby's prob afraid I'll make him eat some Medifast oatmeal if he says I do.

I've lost a little over 110 pounds, am 46, and I'm therefore surprised that I'm not saggy all over. I thought I would be, but the only saggy place is under my arms and that's not too bad really. Like Adele said...better saggy than fat..

I've lost weight quickly (50# since May) so yeah, my skin hasn't had a chance to shrink back. I'm over 50 yrs old and I think some elasticity has vanished from my body. But I'm planning to start toning up..

I can hide some saggy skin, I can't hide 50 pounds of fat. I'm coming off my high blood pressure meds soon, have more energy and a positive outlook now. I'm going to choose having a healthy weight, even if I have looser skin. I still have 40 more pounds to go and I definitely would not be able to hide 90 pounds of fat. I barely had clothes to put it all in! .

Don't find excuses, just jump into the water!.
