Shooting shows being close to the stage.
I would like to know what would be my best bet(recommended camera settings) to shoot shows/concerts of moving subjects(like Circ du Soleil). I'm looking for advice on what kinda of lens and what kinda of flash(whether I should use it or not). I'll be in front of the stage, very close to the subjects but in low light, I'd like my pics to be as sharp as it can be. I'm afraid of getting my pics all blurred. Most of the guys I see doing those shootings in previous shows are not using tripod. I'm using a dslr Canon XT rebel.

Many thxdaubian..

Use fast prime lenses and higher ISO..

With canon you need something from20mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4 or 1.8 , 85mm f/1.4 would be best lenses to use..

I got decent results with 24mm f/2.8 + ISO 400 during recent night show, but my camera body has IS..

Is there any specific brand I should look for when purchasing such lens? When you mentioned fast lens, how would I "measure" that? Btw your pics are great and I believe this is kinda quality I'm looking foward to achieve.Daub..

Look for the f number on the lens. The lower the number, the faster the lens. So look for a prime that's f/2.8, or even better, f/1.7..

By the way, Cirque du Soleil doesn't allow photography in their tents. I went to their show in Toronto on Friday. Outstanding..

Good luck with choosing the right camera setup...

Initial f/something number stands for how "fast" lens is. It's actually represents how much light get lost while traveling through lens on the way to sensor. Smaller f/something - better lens..

F/1.4 faster(better) then f/2.8 which is better then f/3.5.

Since you are using Canon camera you should consider:.

Canon Normal EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus LensorCanon Normal EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Autofocus Lens.

Wider angle:Canon 24mm f/2.8 USM EF LensorCanon Wide Angle EF 24mm f/1.4L USM Autofocus Lensor.

Sigma 24mm f/2.8 for Canon EF mount (this is older Sigma model I use on my Minolta body).

Even widerCanon 20mm f/2.8 USM EF Lensor Sigma 20mm f/1.8.

Great portrait lensCanon 85mm f/1.8 USM EF Lens.
