Shooting on cloudy day

On a cloudy day you will get more accurate color than you do on a sunny day. but the colors will not be bright but accurate to the original coloration. if you like more color simply up the saturation in pp..

Use your auto white balance or your cloudy setting. use your exposure meter for a properly exposed shot, that is exposed to the right. but do not let the histogram hit the right wall before it hits the bottom on the right side or you will have blown highlights...

Yep. Cloudy days can be great - no harsh shadows, great for shooting waterfalls/mountain streams. It's just like any other picture - it's up to you to make it interesting..

Here's some samples where - due to the time of day - the images worked because of the clouds. Sun in both of these instances would have removed the possibility of good images due to where the sun was in relation to the subject at the time these were photographed (In short, when you have lemons, make lemonade):.

On clioudy dates, increase the contrast setting inyour camera, and perhaps the saturation setting..

Get closer, is a good rule, too..

When you can, add light. There are lots of times when flash and a cloudy day work well..

Look for other sources of light. Neon signs, spotlights, floodlights often add enough accent to a scene to make a photograph at least half-way decent..

But more often than not, if the clouds are heavy enough that there are no shadows, just put the camera away and do something else..

BAK..

The Canyonlands National Park is one of my favorite places. Specifically, that is Shafer Canyon. Cloudy days can work well..

Thank you. The last photo I desaturated quite a bit. Sometimes cranking up saturation helps... but sometimes it gives the image an unnatural look and desaturation is called for instead. A picture taken on a cloudy day shouldn't look like one taken on a sunny day..

Here's one that relies heavily on color - this is actual color - but if I cranked up the saturation it wouldn't have worked..
