I think you have to look at this:.
"You agree that Go Daddy or it's licensor holds all rights, title and interest in all Software and Services and all intellectual property, including other rights related to intangible property, unless otherwise indicated. You acknowledge that no title or interest in such Intellectual Property Rights is being transferred to You and You agree to make no claim of interest in any such Services or Software.".
So, if you have a © copyright notice on your stuff, software, services, no, they do not own the rights..
I am not a lawyer, though. My wife studied German law, though.... one moment... yep, she agrees with me..
Is there a US lawyer in the house?.
I guess that means that THEY INDICATE IT. Read the second line which is more important You acknowledge that no title or interest in such Intellectual Property Rights is being transferred to You and You agree to make no claim of interest in any such Services or Software...
In law, you have to read EXACTLY what is there. It does not say "unless we indicate otherwise" it says "unless otherwise indicated". Huge difference..
(I had to read all those papers, trust me, EVERY word counts double).
Basically, this is them trying to protect their assets as in:.
- No, the webpanel does not belong to you..
- No, the grafx on the GoDaddy Homepage are not public domain..
- No, you can nhot use our boobiegirls on your porn page..
PS: Going to contact them and see what they have to say. Will report back...
That's how I read it that we don't own any of the software/tools used to display our domains, etc...
Maybe that is there to (also) cover their 'parking service' that you actually have to pay for... Don't steal this page type thing...
<tinfoil hat on>Or maybe it means what you think it means <tinfoil hat off>.
I wish I could find the thread where I read about it first as it had some long discussion about the whole issue and the inference was that GoDaddy contract really needs to be challenged in the court. I will see if I can find it somehow and post a link here..
@emp Do let me know what response you get...
Def like to hear whats doing with this because I have too many domains at Godaddy..
Same here... wherever I go to get one, I always get 5 for the free whois protection and I'm a sucker for the cheap .infos too!.
Emp, every time I see your avatar I think I'm tripping!..
No response yet, will update..
@LazyHippy: Good stuff, eh?.
Would be nice to hear about this, I personally don't use godaddy, their panel just doesn't seem to user friendly to me... I'm pretty partial to NameCheap.com myself, have had VERY good experiences with support with them, not to mention they have employees who lurk at another major board I frequent so it's easy to get ahold of them...
BTW Check this out Go Daddy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and NoDaddy.Com - Exposing the Many Reasons Not to Trust GoDaddy with Your Domain Names..
I will try taking it up with them again..
