Whats a good shared host that would support dating sites, and that allow multiple sites on one account. I was with host gator for the longest time until they suspended my account and told me I needed a dedicated server. My sites grew to having almost 3500 members in total just fine on their shared environment. (this was over a period of a couple years). and now on their dedicated box, I am not experiencing very much growth which is why I want to downgrade. I dont think a dedicated box is justified. What is a good host that you recommend for this?..

What is your bandwidth used each month?.

I personally use Arvixe.com for all of my hosting - I have roughly 25 sites running on their servers, 30 databases, 50 email addresses, 25 ftp accounts, and about 30 subdomains. They only have gone down once in the time I've been using them over 3 years and they were quick to send me an apology and get it fixed. Keep in mind though, I use their IIS server, not Linux, and thus they allow up to 500 sites per hosting plan...

Have you looked into VPS? Its cheaper than dedicated and does essentially the same thing...

In terms of bandwidth I dont use that much, maybe 60 gb per month average, which is nothing..

The reason I had to transfer the sites to a dedicated, was primarily because of the amount of CPU and RAM being used up on the server. I was told that my sites were hogging the resources and that is why I had to make the move. But it doesnt make sense to me, because my sites grew for the LONGEST time perfectly fine in a shared environment...

Did you stop advertising upon changing server with hopes of people just coming or are you still continuing the same marketing methods?..

Once your site got to the 3XXX members and dependant on how many users were online, how many of those users were impatient and hit the same button 50times before it took them to that page ect, small things like that will use a lot of cpu and ram, which makes every site on the shared server load slow or not load at all.

We had someone who had a small dating site and they allowed uploads of media, well once a certain amount of users would come on, all the reasources would be used up and no other site on the server would load good, so we had to let them know of upgrade options because we could not have our other sites work good with a site using the whole server..

Your lucky there TOS is not like some places because they charge up the a$$ for using too much cpu, which is dumb but some hosts do that, thats why you always read the TOS before you signup with a new host..

How much are you looking to pay a month? Because dependant on your knowledge you can get some dedi box's cheap on a month to month basis..

You could try a VPS from a company like KnownHost, SLHost, PowerVPS, Myriad Network, Leeware, VPSLink, etc to save a bit of money since you seem to be somewhere between needing a shared account and a dedicated server...

The bandwidth usage is not the issue in this case. If you are looking for a long term perspective then VPS or a Dedicated server is the best suited in this regards. VPS server is almost same as dedicated server which is also fully managed and also suits to your requirements. The rates are also cheaper than a dedicated box. So, In this case if you go for a VPS you will get enough memory and bandwidth to use and there will be no issue of downgrading and upgrading in future..

Regards..

I've been using knownhost for awhile for VPS hosting and their starter plan is $20. It's possible to increase your bandwidth/ram/storage incrementally as needed, for fairly cheap.

The only other VPS host I've tried is gate.com...don't waste your time. I have no idea what's going on over there, but it took a 40 minute phonecall to get my initial password for the account since the one they emailed me was wrong. It wasn't too long after that I left...

Go to hhttp://webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104 and look at some of the company's offers - they are usually better than what is displayed on the company's website...

I'd prolly recommend VPS too and if you're still using too many resources sounds like dedicated is the way to go...
