Requeriments DSLR... Nikon D60?
My requeriments:.

- Good Jpeg straight out of camera.

- Good AF in automatic mode (not unpredictable and selectable AF point in Scene Modes)- Real Autoiso.

I can't spend a lot of time in PP... I need RAW only for some "important" pictures...Is Nikon D60 the perfect candidate? Another options?..

The D60 will do just fine..

But then, so would any other similarly priced SLR..

One thing you'll probably want to do is turn up the sharpness if you want nice jpegs straight from the camera. This perhaps applies more to Nikon than to some of their rivals..

Out of curiosity,.

Can sharpness be turned up only in custom of optimization.. and not in for example vivid or more vivid?.

Thanks..

Cheers,.

James..

Dont' really agree on that. I find the D60 pictures sharper out of the camera then those produced by Sony or Olympus. Not that it really matters alot..

I do agree that any similar priced camera will produce good pictures out of the camera, but according to some reviews I read, the Nikon is among the better..

That said: I have just recently bought the Sony A300, and find the out-of-the-camera pictures great, but a little on the soft side and perhaps a bit more contrast will help them too. But you can change this in the camera, so no PP is needed..

Make sure you look at the Sony's too. Lovely camera's. But they are somewhat bigger compared to the D60, on the other hand, the A300 has liveview if you want that..

Greetings,Erwin.

Yes. D60 is best DSLR ever made that outperforms every other DSLR in each photo category. Even when photo is made with closed eyes. It will atomaticly correct tilt by rotating lens, autofocus will focus on right subject by predicting yout thoughts, JPG is as good as RAW files produced by Full Frame MARK III..

On serious note. No camera warrant from user faults. To avoid faults you need to learn how to use camera..

Each modern DSLR is capable creating masterpiece photo..

Keep in mind that Sony makes the sensor for Nikon and the D60 uses the same Sensor as the Sony A200 and A300. If you fine tune either camera, you will get excellent shots that you will be very happy with. The Sony offers a lot more camera for a lot less money than the D60. Also, you can use all the old Minolta auto lenses from 1985 on and they will function perfectly including anti-shake. The D60 can only use the old Nikon lenses manually. You need to go to the D80 to be able to use the old lenes in auto mode...

I have a Nikon D60 and really like it. What I did was go to a store and try all the DSLR's. The Sony's were nice but a little big for my liking and not as well laid out for controls. The Nikon to me felt the best built and also seemed to handle the best. Not sorry that I made this choice at all! But you try them out first and make your own decision. I know and agree. Just saying that Andres statement that the out-camera pictures on the Nikons are softer then other brands. At default settings that is not true in my opinion. Of course, it can be tuned in-camera. And the Sony is truely a lovely camera. I know now, since I bought it.

If you don;t want liveview and you want a smaller camera, the Nikons are great stuff too..

If you go for kitlenses in first, the Sony has a small advantage there too. The Kitlens is 18-70 where the Nikon comes with a 18-55. Not a big problem, but if it comes to making pro's and con' lists, you might want to write that up too....
