You would probably be better off buying a book or two, but a magazine like Popular Photography should help you..
Also, try a one week free trial of training videos at:http://www.lynda.com/deke.

Thanks Jeff,.
I am going to buy a number of books for sure. But sometimes a magazine can provide updated content. And most of the time magazines are more interesting..
Magazines can also introduce me to the world of photography, while books introduce me to the methods and techniques..

What country do you live in? Magazines tend to be localised.Jules.
Why can't you blow bubbles with chewing gum?..
Digital Photo and Practical Photography are very good. They also have a forum,http://www.photoanswers.co.uk, where you can upload images for C&C and get helpful advice from members..
Kind regardsJulia E..

Ok. I don't know if Digital Photo is available there (or even still being published) but I learned a lot from it here in the UK. They gave away discs with tutorials and they were worth their weight in Gold!Jules.

There are a lot of good magzines but the best all around broadly based mix of composition, camera-based technical, lens-based technical, computer editing, and general everything else is probably the UK magazzine Photography Monthly..

I totally agree.My favorite Magazines..
Being in the U.S. I pay about $15 each for them but they are worth it..
Give them a try...
Is there such a thing, a magazine for beginners? Usually magazines are aimed at for the pros (or intermediate)..
I would look for a good book. Someone here suggested, "Understanding Exposure"...
How about PCPhoto magazine. It has articles for beginners and advanced users..
