Reccomend a book please.
I'm lookiing to get a book for my GF who is about to embark on learning what she can about photography. I'm looking for a comprehensive book that will touch on all the basics of photography including aperture, shuter speed, film speed, focal length, composition, DOF etc as well as describing some basics about the digital and analog platforms. I have read about Scott Kelby's book and that it does'nt contain a lot about the basic principles of photography, and focuses more on specific photo styles and looks with digital. Then there is Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure", but I hear this has no real interlude into anything but exposure... Are there any books out there that do a good job of covering the whole gamut? Thanks!.

-Luke.

I can always tell if somebody likes a photograph I've taken, because they instantly compliment the camera...

I bought a book that I consider a good intro to digital photography - it does cover the gamut as you say. "Mastering Digital SLR Photography, 2nd Edition by David D Busch. This really does cover most everything digital however, in terms of actually learning basic photography then definitely Perterson's Understanding Exposure"..

So far my best resources besides internet stuff have been:.

Understanding Exposure by Bryan PetersonPerfect Exposure for Digital Photograhy (video, from Photoshopcafe)Thom Hogan's Ebooks for Nikon dslrs.

A good internet introductionshortcourses.com.

Here is a list of other online resources that look good.http://forums.dpreview.com/...forums/read.asp?forum=1002&message=27843366..

I recommend "Photography" by John Freeman. It helped me a lot when I was first starting out, and continues to help me as I grow and improve. It covers all that you mention and much, much more..

I saw the Langford at a local shop and it looked fairly good. Any other suggestions?.

A recent intelligent "introductory" book (covering all bases) you may like to consider is:.

"Photo.pedia" by Michael Miller, Que press..

Don't bother with Peterson, unless you want to be confused..

A good book on exposure is:.

"Mastering Digital Exposure and HDR Imaging" by Chris Weston, Rotovision press, 2008. (ISBN 978-2-940378-29-6) I have another book by Chris Weston, and he "knows his onions"...
