Do you register your domains publicly or privately? Just curious, if it's a big deal or not.....

I use a whois gaurd on all my domains, when you start buying a lot of domains you start getting a lot of telemarketers calling if you don't block your information...

I use NameCheap which gives you free WhoisGuard when you register a domain - I use it...

I'm pretty sure thats only for the first year, I could be wrong though...

So if I buy WhoisGuard I won't need to register the domain privately? (I would assume so, since private registrations should not be given out to telemarketers!)..

I have no clue what we are talking about anymore.

(sorry it might be my 1 hour of sleep in the last 2 days, or maybe all the full throttles and coffee)..

Hehehe, np. I looked on WhoisGuard's Website and it seems to be a service offered with hosting... not something I can purcahse. Hmm, I wonder if GoDaddy offers this - nope, they do not They are charging $4.99/yr per domain for private registration!..

If you use Registerfly, make sure to check your whois. Half the time the private whois was not activated properly...

Just signup with Namcheap and use a coupon.. $7.99 for domain / whoisguard I like them better than GoDaddy too....

I've been using whoisguard on namecheap - very cool. The charges for privacy can really add up when you have a slew of domains...I'm wondering if plugging in fake information is the way to go. Is that crazy? I'm not sure anyone I would WANT to talk to would look me up via whois (and I'm really cheap)...

Damn, now I gotta transfer registrars again lol.

Thanks for the info, will try them out..

I've been using ipower.com lately. $2.95 for the first year of registration, with free private whois. Their control panel sucks, but for $3 a domain... I'll deal with it...

Yeah you're right. You can buy whoisguard packages after that..

Namecheap is currently my favorite registrar....love that control panel...

Private is better. There are people selling stuff like "GET TOP RANKINGS IN ALL SEARCH ENGINES, INSTANT SUBMISSION TO ALL SEARCH ENGINES".. etc.

And having your address they mail it right to you :!..

Cant you just lie and put down a fake name and address? That's what I do...

Thats not allowed according to ICANN rules. (i think:P)..

Indeed it is, but there are so many millions of domains there is little to no chance that they would get you for it...

That's more of a speedbump than a brick wall.

Who's bright idea was it anyway, to put people's real addresses and phone numbers into the public record available to millions of people worldwide?..

Always privately. It's so cheap to keep it anonymous anyhow so why not?..

1and1 offers free privacy masking. ITs great! Godaddy rips you off when doing it. What are you opinions on registering .info names vs .com names? There is a considerable price difference...

Thats because registerfly is the worst company in the world...
