P&S Camera for wife - $100 - $200
Well, I got my canon 40D, and having a good time getting used to it. But my wife thinks it is to heavy. She wants to be able to have a smallish camera that she can put into a diaper bag and carry around w/ her. I am trying to figure out the best camera for her needs. I was looking at the Coolpix L14, but from some other reviews it looks like it has a pretty long shutter delay when using the flash. Since my wife will probably be taking pictures of the baby inside, it is quite possible she will be using the flash.

1) $100-$2002) MP does not matter that much but would like 6MP if possible or more3) Would like a pretty good shutter response w/ & w/out flash.4) Something that does well in P&S auto mode. She wants something easy.5) Decent Video would be icing on cake.

Thanks...

The Fuji F40fd would be best for indoor shots. Canons are very good all-purpose cameras and there are several below $200 - the SD1000 is ultracompact, the A570IS and A720IS are a little larger but take better-looking photos...

Consider Casio EX-Z1080 (performance will be similar to it's predecessor Ex-Z1000, see review at DPREVIEW for that.)http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/casioz1000/page6.aspCasio cameras are renowned for fast shutter response & flash recycle.Next is Fuji F40fd..

My daughters each have a Sony DSC-W55. Small, lightweight, metal body, comes with a rechargeable battery, 7.2 MP sensor and (last I saw) available for under $200.00. They seem to do ok with my kids, and they do take ok pics, and the bonus is the video function works well. These are the ONLY P&S cameras I have experience with, so I can't give any comparative statements.Jeremy.

Everyone's an idiot sometimes, I just advertise.A few of my feeble attempts athttp://www.jeremyrwilliams.com/coppermine orhttp://s199.photobucket.com/albums/aa203/jrw1275/..

No. Ricoh GX100, GRD, Canon G9, Fuji E900, Panasonic LX2 shoot RAW among recent compacts..

I'll second that. I've used several Canons, and like them very much. SD1000 and A570IS should be on the short list. The former is VERY small, great for purse or pocket. The latter is a little bigger and more versatile...

Fuji F40. Fast response, good low light, excellent value for the money. Fuji auto white balance does better than Canon under indoor lighting, when shooting without flash. If your wife wanted or needed any kind of manual functions, then I'd recommend an A720IS or A570IS, but those are overkill. The Fuji F series are generally superior to the Canon SD series in all but the lowest ISO settings...
