I would not be surprised if the CS3 and other non-Canon software hasn't updated yet to read this very new camera..

I don't know if CS3 will support it or not, but it is not listed in Adobe's latest supported camera listing, per their website:.

Adobe software will be unable to process 40D Raw files until Adobe has a chance to get a few copies of a 40D, make a number of test shots to determine how the 40D renders various colors under various lighting conditions, and then make an update to Adobe Camera Raw containing that information..
We go through this every time a new camera is released. Every company that makes software for Raw conversion has to determine how the camera renders colors and then update their software. Until your particular software is updated, you'll have to "make do" with the software provided by the camera manufacturerwho had the advantage of being able to do all of this BEFORE the camera was released to the public..
At least you're not using CS2. Based on past experience, Adobe will probably not bother to provide 40D updates for ACR for CS2...
When Adobe updates Camera Raw with profiles for a new camera these profiles are also in an updated DNG converter. You can then use the latest DNG converter to convert your raw files to DNG format. When this is done you can use older versions of ACR to work with your raw files in PS CS or PS CS2 etc.Denis de Gannes..
