Personally, I use option 2. I often keep drinks at the computer andI'm afraid that I'll spill as I'm hooking up the data cable..
Same here, but for different reasons. Also, you need to realize that not all camera's have a CF. When speaking in general terms, best to use: Memory CardWarm regards,DOF..
The card reader saves the camera battery along with other advantages.Greg.

I use 1gig SD cards and plugging in through the high speed usb port I download the whole thing in less than 2 minutes.
Might be slower than a card reader but just junk laying on my table and no "woops I forgot to put the card back in" situtations...
Card reader, faster, easy, cheap and the camera isn't sitting on the desk waiting for me to knock it off..

Card reader - I don't like having my camera sitting on my desk with the strap ready ready to latch on to anything I may move (including myself)..
I also like the idea of keeping my camera isolated and insulated from any other electrical component..

#1,cable. if it's really cold I take the card out and put it in the reader while the camera warms up in a zipper bag..
To me the cable seems more convenient, when I travel with my laptop I think I will use the card reader tho, the cable would be just one extra thing to carry around..

I often dump my cards to a PSD in the field and then import into Lightroom from that..
Otherwise I use a card reader. I'm not sure if the USB port on my camera even works. I've never tried to use it.Chefziggyhttp://www.pbase.com/chefziggy/lecream.

Depending on number of images and which camera and does the camera need a charge at the same time...
