Photograhpy Enthusiast Have Weird Keyboards
Why do photographers have no periods "." on their computer keyboards. Everytime they quote a lens or camera price they use commas instead of decimal points. Such as: $345,00 or $125,50. Lens review sites do the same..

Just wondering......

I believe that in Europe, the comma is used instead of the period for the radix mark...

Confirm, the comma serves the same function as the decimal point in US and CA numeric notation..

Since this web site is based in UK I believe there is at least a plurality of European based participants...

Here in the U.K. the "." dot or full-stop is used in typed numbers. But when writing by hand, the dot (properly named the decimal point) is raised half-way up the line (same height as a hyphen "-").Mainland Europe uses the comma instead..

Also in the U.K. the separator between every third digit in large whole numbers such as 1,000,000 (one million) is the comma...

That's what I grew up with, but increasingly people are using the period instead of the traditional 'decimal point'. The first electronic pocket calculators, which appeared when I was at school, sounded the death knell for the old decimal point. And computers have been the final nail in the coffin..

Not quite everywhere! See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_point - scroll down to "Examples of Use". The Swiss are not known for following the crowd, of course ..
