Old Vs new, Bridge/ zooms
G'day, help please, thanks to all that replied to my previous post..

Basically as in my last post, I'm after an SLR shaped camera which has good IQ in auto or the scene modes, as I won't be able to use it manually as I'm legally blind..

The FZ18 seems to be the best of the current bunch, but I'd prefer one with a manual zoom, also I don't need that much zoom, I mainly want wide angle, I would like an SLR shaped camera as they are comfortable in my hands..

How do these older models compare to teh current range of cameras? I think all of these have manual zoom..

Sony R1, From what I've read this is one of the best non SLR's made, however I may not be able to find one I can afford..

Kodak P880, This one seems good and I can get it now..

I like the two above as they both have a 24mm wide angle..

Olympus 8080, this sounds like an outstanding camera, also a bit more expensive, but I think I could find one..

Fuji S6500, doesn't sound to good for point and shoot..

Please give me some feedback on how the above compare to whats out there now, I know they don't have IS, but wondered on IQ..

I also may wait to see what new offerings come out in the next couple of months, as I don't need it immediately..

Thanks for all replies...

I know that the Kodak P880 is VERY well thought of in image quality terms, by professionals and amateurs alike..

If you are able to, please enjoy this slideshow of images that I am assured were pretty much straight out of the camera.......

Please note: These pictures are NOT mine... but I do admire them greatly, and I think both the camera AND photographer have done splendidly. .

Further Note: The ponies (on Dartmoor, Southwest England) are wild!!.

Here is the photographer's blog, which is also nicely done....

Ha ha!! .

With "G'day" and "mate" in your vocabulary, you sound like an Aussie, not a Yank!.

Either way, from this Brit, let me wish "G'day, mate" to you and your missus, and may you both enjoy the photography, whichever camera you settle on. Okay? Regards,Baz..

Aha! Now I get it..

Thing is, your profile says you are in United States....

... but it says that by default, so if you neglect to CHANGE it at registration, we can end up being a little misled....

Never mind. .

Thanks alot..

You're welcome. Have a nice day.... as they say in the States. Regards,Baz..

Another vote for the P880. I have used one at work a bunch, and have a buddy with one... they are both great cameras... Only issue is that it is slow to focus and has some lag... But the pictures are great....

Current digital camera: my cell phoneAnd now a SP-570!..
