Non-Sanyo charger for Eneloops?
I have four new Eneloop batteries without the charger. What charger could I use? Since Eneloops are hybrid batteries, is it okay to use a regular Ni-MH charger?.

If possible, can someone name a charger that I could purchase at Target or RadioShack, since those two places are near my home...

I've got Eneloop's as well, but with the Sanyo charger. I checked the Sanyo website.

"Other Chargers.

Basically eneloop is a modern Ni-MH battery, which can be charged like any other Ni-MH battery..

Therefore eneloop can be charged also with other, modern chargers, which are suitable to charge Ni-MH batteries..

However, SANYO cannot accept any liability for the function or safety of chargers made by other manufacturers..

Also SANYO cannot be held responsible for any damage to eneloop batteries caused by unsuitable chargers.".

They don't say anything about charge rates, etc. Their AA charger has a recharge time of about 4 hours for 2 x AA, so I would avoid quick chargers without some checking..

You can Google 'eneloop charging', there are a number of threads on the batteries & charging..

I use a Maha C-9000 charger with all my AA and AAA batteries including Sanyo Eneloop. For Eneloop I use 700 mA charging current for AA and 300 mA for AAA.VictorBucuresti, Romaniahttp://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/victor_petcu/http://picasaweb.google.com/teodor.nitica/..

All of the high density AA/AAA cells do not like to really fast charged..

A safe charge rate is not more than 1/3-1/4 of the batteries capacity..

Best charge rate is 1/10th (200mA on a 2000mA battery) or what we call C/10..

Well, of course they have to say that - Canon manuals will also tell you Canon can't be responsible for the use of non-Canon batteries. There's nothing wrong with using a good charger. I use a LaCrosse BC-900 to charge Eneloops and other NiMH batteries..

Avoid the cheap fast chargers usually found at chain stores since they can damage batteries. Maha makes several smart chargers that also recondition them as well. The Maha C204W is economical and a widely used and highly recommended model from this reputable online vendor..

The only drawback which is moot to me is that it charges in pairs not individually. It's one of the few models that doesn't require the 'brick' power supply used by many which makes it very portable as well. They also have battery combos and Eneloops at great prices if you need them.Being in the midwest you should receive it in a day or 2..

Sometimes C/10 is safe. But from my experience with Maha charger (about two years) a current between 0.33C and 0.5C doesn't have any negative impact on batteries. Perhaps because Maha is a smart charger and have protection for voltage and temperature my batteries are OK (both regular and hybrid NiMH).VictorBucuresti, Romaniahttp://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/victor_petcu/http://picasaweb.google.com/teodor.nitica/..
