nikon lens questions. EX, DX, HSM, what does this stuff mean?
Ok ive got a D60 with a 18-55VR and a 55-200VR lens. I want to get a fish eye and a wide angle, but theres a few things I dont understand. I look at lenses on BHphoto and RITZ and there's all these abbreviations, like EX, DX, HSM, AF, etc... can someone debunk this for me? I know my lenses say DX and AF-S on them. so does this mean any lens that says DX on it will work on my D60? or does it have to say AF-S /I on it also?.

If you dont live for something you'll die for nothing!..

DX means it's meant for DX sensors (i.e. D40/60/80/300) but not FF (it might produce vignetting in cameras like the D3).

If it says DX, it works with your D60, but only if it's AF-S/I will provide autofocus..

Sigma's HSM is the same as Nikon's AF-S (in other words, an HSM lens is fully compatible with the D60, including autofocus).

EX, ED etc are designations for the quality of glass (supposedly it's a better glass), but take it with a grain of salt if the lens is a consumer-type. In other words, even the 18-55 AF-S has a fancy ED II written on it, but it doesn't mean it's as good as the 1600$ 70-200 AF-S ED.
