Looking for a camera that will take pictures without significant delay in all lighting conditions. I like your review of the Nikon S10, but don't see any comments on camera reaction time. I've missed too many pictures with my older digital. The Kodak 712 is the only camera that I've seen where speed was specifically noted. It is apparently very quick. Any input?..

Hi Jim, I have a Nikon S10 but it has gone wrong after only 3 weeks, flash will not fire each time and will not give the correct exposure. The worst part of the camera is the start up time it's to slow. Focus is poor at 10x and worse when digitally zoomed in. Image quality is very good. I also have a Fuji F30 it's much easier to get your picture but only 3x zoom. but does have 3200asa if you need it.

Regards, Rob...

Hi.

I am planning to buy Nikon S10, read few reviews and am confused as few say it has got problems and few say it's good. This will be my first digital camera. If this camera has got problems then can anyone suggest my some other camera with same features (6MP and 10x zoom), in same price range. Your feedback will be appreciated!! Thanks.

Manish..

My new Nikon S10 is on the way but I now wonder what my success will be. I currently own a canon A510, 3.2 megapixels and 4X optical and have recurrent problems with the lens cover opening partially or not at all. I wanted a 10X for bird photography but a pocketable camera at a price I could afford, hence the S10. In reviewing the 10X and 12X camera reviews I always found one or more negative reports. I came to the conclusion that the complexity of a modern camera will probably result in a failure of some sort over a period of time. Are there any "perfect" cameras under $500? Comments?..

Hey, I just have two quick questions for anyone that can answer. I'm looking into getting an S10, and was wondering first of all, whethere it can fit in my pocket? Second, can you use optical zoom, while videoing? Thanks...

Hey, I envy you. You probably have your S10 by now. CONGRATS! I love those, but in response to a "perfect" camera under $500, there's a pretty cool one coming out in March for $350. It's the Panasonic Lumix TZ3. There aren't any reviews to read yet, unfortunately, but it DOES sound cool!..

Hi guys s10 has been very good for me. as far as zooming in video mode, it's not as good as it is while in picture mode. and for those ppl who are claiming that the flash is a problem after 40 pics. I would suggest you to check whats the flash mode set to. coz if it's auto mode, then it first detects the external light conditions and take the snap. it has got a very good night mode.

I have taken pictures while I was in a car at 80 miles per hour and I took a picture of another car moving in opposite direction. the angle of photo took is perpendicular to my direction, this has shown me that it has excellent capture speed. s10 rocks for sure. the other good cam I came across is kodak z710. it's a woth every penny you spend..

I bought a S10 one month ago and without reading the manual, I took it to egypt for 10 days. I took over 900 photos and some short videos. I have to say it is a really good camera. Majority are very good pics. those that are not good are my mistakes totally. everything works fine and I am surprised on the back light feature which takes good pictures when I am in dark lighting situation. worth the money for sure...

I got the S10 as a gift, I must say I was actually planning on buying a canon a640 or similar. In the beginning, I was a bit sceptical about the design and the fact that there was no viewfinder. Similarly, to the previous commnentator, I took it to Egypt without having tried it out before and I am really stunned by the quality of the pictures. Of course, the focus at 10x zoom will take a bit more time but overall the x10 zoom is quite a powerful feature. The cameras internal software takes "good decisions", the VR (stability) does a real good job, good performance in poor lightning, good sunset pictures... The camera does fit into the back pocket of my jeans (a bit bulky though).

Another thing is the absence of viewfinder, which can be annoying when there is direct sunlight but overall the LCD screen is really good and thanx to the swivel thingy, you can change the angle of the lcd screen... overall a good camera with really good picutre quality...

I got the S10 to photograph nature stuff on my morning runs. Wanted a small camera with a lot of versatility. It seems to be a good camera, a little big for fitting in most pockets, although I do have a few shirt pockets that will hold it. Need to be careful that it does not fall outGot the regular Nikon case and a waterproof thingy. Have rigged both up to wear the camera around my neck as I run. Not a completely satisfactory arrangement - the camera is inside my sweat top in the cold weather.

It would be nice to have a manual focus. Quite often it hunts quite a while and never settles in on the subject of interest - mostly in the macro mode, but flying birds are difficult to catch. I am fairly new to digital cameras and the turn on and focus times bothers me, have missed a lot ofIn the good old days, a real camera would be ready to go as soon as one picked it up. Over all I am quite happy with this little jewel...
