A fuji F40fd should be very good for you. Its not quite as good at low light as the F30/31 series, but only just, but slimmer and more stylish, and uses SD cards..
While they are not miracle workers, the now retiring super ssd of the F20/30/31 and F40 are the best low light p and s out there.A picture is the expression of an impression. If the beautiful were not in us, how would we ever recognize it?Ernst Haas..
Thanks, that'll be the one I buy unless someone says elsewise..
Come over to the fujitalk forum and do a search on the camera, you will find photos and comments. Most everyone seems pleased with theirs, especially if they never owned the F20/30/or 31..which has only slightly better low light performance. Many think the F40 does a better job in bright daylight..

I'm looking for advice on a camera that works well in video mode and low light. My main purpose is taking salsa videos in a club, which is of course low light. I had a Sony mini-DV video camera (which died) but didn't work well at low light at all. I also need the usual ability to do touristy pictures, birthdays etc, this should ideally be at 2 MegaPixels min..
I've heard Canon cameras in general focus faster (for those of us wanting the quick action shot). Any tips on cameras to look at (or if I need to look at video cameras) would be much appreciated.Rookie camera user.Neil..
Have you had any usefull advice yet or bought a cam?.
I myself have been looking for a cam for ages that has good IQ for pix and video in club/rave/environments AND still has relatively good audio on the clips as well. So far after much research there's one massive conclusion: nothing beats a Sony-cam for audio!.
But personally I'm not that happy with the overall IQ of the pix....
So I'm still looking for alternatives. The more recent Fuji's have been a consideration until I saw soms videoclips filmed at a festival: bad BAD noise resulting in non-usable videoclips, though photo IQ was ok....
Considering the Panny TZ3 (as I love the high zoom, Leica lens & wide-angle possibilities) BUT absolutely nobody has ever used it for taking pix or shooting vids at raves or in clubs it seems. I did find a clip by a TZ1 from within the dj-booth even and the sound was really quite good compared to my Canon Powershot A710IS (that I'm selling now) and really any other clip out there aside from Sony-made ones....
Ps: please no "get a videocam" or other suggestions like that.I shoot more pix than that I film and, like the TS, I'll also be using itfor "normal" photography at home, etc... Samples of pix and vids taken atclubs/raves would be great - the proof is in the pudding, as they say...;)..
Canon SD series has some good options. e.g. SD950IS or SD870IS (for wide-angle view). Both will give good results and have optical viewfinder too (good to have in low light for live-tracking of subjects).Fuji Z100fd is also good option..
Hey guys. I'm a night owl. Nearly every crazy adventure I have takesplace at night. Clubs, parks, the beach..etc. I live for night life.Prehaps you can recommend me a camera?.
Features I'm looking for:1)Good for clubs, night time shots, ill use it most at night2)Fit in the pocket and not be cumbersome3)Stylish feel if possible(I wouldn't want to be like "Hey lets takea picture!" and then whip out something that is embarassing or ugly4)I will primarliy be using this for internet upload, such as myspaceand photobook, not really printing.
*)Video - would be nice if I could get some quality video shots, maybe night vision or a camera light(But I know this is highlyunlikly for a camera, so stick to the first features I listed).
I was originally planning on getting the Casio 880 b/c it's superslim, stylish, and has cool features, but I realzied it's moreimportant to have good pictures from my night..
Appreciate your time.
