Okay I was looking at our finances today and realized I'm paying about $350 a month including coupon to be on Medifast w/Omega 3 and Digestive Pills and including $27/month for Soy Crisps (yes I eat them every day). Anyway I know there are some new snack options but I can't find them on the main site. Anyone recall what they are? I'm looking to get rid of the $27/month. Thanks!.

Well, I don't agree with Nutrisystem decision to count these as a snack rather than a healthy fat, but 1 TBSP of pnut butter is now allowed, as is 1 oz of nuts. There are plenty of other approved snacks that are much lower in fat and calories to choose from on the existing list. I bought the crackers twice. Stuck to celery or pickles when I needed a pick me up..

There's a list on the Medifast Site, under the Learning tab I think. Some snacks include sf jello cups, celery sticks, dill pickles... don't recall what else because I rarely use them..

Okay, I think I'll get some Almonds, weigh them out and put them in little snack bags That should save me some cash. I'm glad they give us options and I knew there were some tasty ones added. I don't know what I'd do with peanut butter though without the bread so I'm staying away from that one..

If you have a particular snack food item in mind you should ask nutrition support. I read somewhere around here about laughing cow cheese and celery. I asked nutrition support once long, long, long time ago about yogurt. My answer was yes, if I can fit it into my daily allowances..

That really is the bottom line. Fitting a food into your daily allowance/your nutritional footprint for your weight loss goals. There are people who believe if it is not on the "written plan" well then one just can not have it, period. But look now peanut butter and nuts are allowed. I plan on putting the 100 calorie almond packs into my footprint at some point. Right now I am using the soy crisps as well.

I really prefer to use the dill pickles as my snack. Not many crisp and yet juicy Medifast foods, so I find that to be a blessing..

Celery with your pb2? The crackers are kinda spendy, I got some too. Crazy. They have those little snak paks of almonds, I haven't compared the cal count, but they might work, but bagging your own is good! I love pickles, so I ususally have those if needed. The celery has saved me several times, lol..

I love the crisps because I can eat them on the run. Have them stashed in the car, etc. but I'll be able to do that with the almonds in little bags. And yes I'll consider contacting the dieticians if I need more help thanks for the suggestions :-).

I like the pickles, and I also keep the SF Jello on hand..

Snacks are optional. Give them up and save yourself even more. Split your L&G if you feel you can't make it eating every 2 1/2-3 hours. I never had snacks after the first week. They slow losses too much..

It is not 1 ounce of nuts. It is 1/2 oz. of walnuts, almonds or pistachios, Weighing them out into baggies is a great idea to keep the portions under control..

There should be some guidelines for snacks - some make no sense to me at all. for example, you can have pickels, but you can't have cucumbers. I would prefer instructions for a snack to be up to x number of calories, no more than x number of carbs, fat, etc. We can onlly have one snack a day, so why not let us chose our own withing some guidelines..

Good point. I will have to weigh out the half ounce portions then should be interesting to see what comes up. I enjoy my snacks and am very pleased with the progress I've made. I'm glad Medifast gives us the option and we can decide whether to eat them or not but even more flexibility with what the snack is would be great!.

As a school lunch lady, I can tell you that the government lets you count sliced cucumbers as a veggie, but you cannot count pickles. Pickles have NO nutritional value. So why does this plan let us have pickle spears, but not an extra few grams of cukes? Go figure..

Maybe they chose pickles because they pack more of a flavor punch than cucumbers. I have always loved pickles but never as much as I do as a snack on MF. I know that I am happy pickles are considered a snack because they are very satisfying...salty, crunchy, cold and yummy..

I think the pickles are there because so often, people starting Medifast feel light headed and sick, and the sodium in the pickles does seem to help with that..

Now this is not *strict MF* talking here, but we are all our own people with brains to figure things out... and for me, I can look at the snacks and go, "hmmm, the highest cal snack is X and the highest carb is Y, so if I was some particular item as a snack and is it LESS than X cals and Y carbs it should work out ok." In other words yes, I have had a 60 cal string cheese as a snack, or a cucumber, because *to me* it fits the general guidelines. I do not do that with Medifast meals, though, because too much messing around with the plan and you are not on Medifast anymore. You're on something else..

Kiki, I do beiieve it is 10 almonds, not an oz!!!.

Thanks-.

Oops not sure what I did with that last post sorry it's so long!.

This is from the registered dietitian on the Getting Started with Medifast forum:.

The nuts available are 1/2 ounce portion: .

Pistachios (20 Kernels), .

Walnuts (3 whole or 7 halves) .

Almonds (10 whole).

Crystal, MS,RD,CDE.

You can get all kinds of official information by going to the Getting Started with Medifast" forum and searching the forum with your question..

Thanks for the correction. I thought I had read 1 0z..

I love the Medifast crackers with a wedge of light LC cheese or 2 stalks of celery with LC cheese..

I also like the soy crisps cheddar and cinnamon. I usually always have 1 snack a day. so far it hasn't affected my progress..

I know. It's hard to keep track of all the info and don't you just wish it was 1 oz???.

Not really. As I've said before, I think it's a mistake on NS' part. They removed them once before because they were getting so many posts about them being trigger foods. Now I think the only reason they put them back is because they were getting so many posts about why can't they have them, because they ARE healthy. I don't know. The info and changes that have come out of Nutrisystem the last year is a bit scary.

That would be a real shame..

De? Is that you? I hardly recognized you! LOL.

Hey, wait a minute! Dark chocolate and red wine are also healthy! Can we have those too?.

<ducking and running>.

<snicker> Well, if you want to go THERE, fruit, dairy and whole grains are healthy too, yet amazingly aren't on plan. Go figure..

Oh, and Chris - Just because I know you want it, and because I CAN.....

SMACK!!!!.

Anyway I know there are some new snack options but I can't find them on the main site. Anyone recall what they are? .

I called nutrition support today..., the new snack options are:.

10 almonds.

7 walnut halves.

20 pistachio nuts.

1 Tbs. (reduced fat) peanut butter.

I am SO thinking about putting walnuts in my brownie..

Me too. Pickles help with salt/sugar cravings too. They are yummy and juicy..
