I assume you mean a new camera? Not refurbished. Anyways, stores are now running out of stock, making room for the new models about to be released. This makes specific recommendations more difficult, as some models that were considered current a month ago are already hard to find. So it would be more useful for you to tell us what you've found that looks good to you. Then we can give our 2 cents. $250 will get you a pretty darned nice P&S.
Online outlets may well have a better selection than your local walkin store..
Well, I already took a good look at the reviews on this site and stumbled upon the Finepix F50fd, it seems that it's one of the best P&S available in the price range I'm looking for. If you have any cheaper alternatives, I would be glad to know them..
I have the Fuji F45fd, which is similar to the F50fd. Except my camera lacks the manual controls, and is priced a little lower. If manual controls are important, there is also the Canon A720 IS, Canon SX100, Nikon P60, and Panasonic LZ10. Though none of those quite matches the F50fd in low light. Here are links to more threads on camera selection in this general price range -.
You could also check out the Canon A720 IS here:.
Dollar-wise, it'll give you above average IQ with not a lot of tweaking, plus it has a 6x zoom and IS..
How does the A590IS compare to the A720? Is the 4x zoom the only difference between the 2 ?

Very similar specs other than the zoom factor. Price-wise, about 100 bucks cheaper if you don't need the reach...
I am really impressed with the Canon sd790 I just bought for my daughter. (Currently Dell has it for $239.) The image quality is much better than my Canon a570...
