Never assume a photo is not usuable (4 images)
Here are a couple of shots that at first glance are not very good, but you can see that with a little work you can turn a poor photo into something decent..

I'm impressed with that second photo. How did you pull that much out of it?Chris Purcell.

Ya that second photo turned out great after you fixed it up. How'd you do it and what programs do you use ?

Very good..

It reminds me of a time in the late 90's when I went to a motorcycle race and took my 35mm camera..

I took a couple of rolls of film, and EVERY picture I took was ruined due to shutter speed to slow, the speed of the bikes, camera shake, and it resulted in them all being very blurred..

One of them I quite liked to composition of, so decided to mess around with it in Coral Photopaint 8.This is the result. I cant find the unedited version to show you unfortunately..

Yeah, i'm curious how you pulled so much back in the highlights of that sunset. certainly makes it a much better photo. If all your friends were named Cliff, would you jump off of them?..

In the second photo I set two exposures in ACR through Bridge, then in Photoshop CS3 I merged the two exposures in to layers, used a mask, and 'brushed-in' the appropriate exposures. If I had not shot in RAW, I doubt that I would have been able to get the detail...

Considering what you had to do, that's pretty good!..

Good advice - and great rescues!.

May I add the further suggestion that it's often worth keeping images that you can't do much with today - what with improvements in editing software and your own skills, they may be simple to fix in the future..

Copy them off onto a CD or DVD, put them away carefully and look them up some rainy day!.
