Need Suggestion - Canon S5 IS or Sony H9
Hello Guyz,.

I am planning to buy Digital Camera in range of $350 - $450 (US Dollar) and stuck with either canon S5 IS or sony H9..

I am looking for:Megapixel - atleast 8Optical zoom - atleat 15xImage Stabilization.

Please suggest me which one to buy as I am amature photographer who is very much interested in taking outdoor adventure photo and indoor parties photo..

If you think in the above given range and specification I can get any other camera then do suggest me that also..

Thanks in advance,.

Czarkhan..

Among the two H9 meets 15x zoom requirement. However S5IS has better iQ overalll..

FZ18 is better with 18x good quality wide angle zoom, Raw mode. If you don't shoot Raw (in my opinion an enthusiast should learn to shoot Raw & postprocess for best possible IQ) then Nikon P80 would be better (due to better JPG compression).Best Wishes, Ajayhttp://picasaweb.google.com/ajay0612Thanks for your time...

I like canon P&S cameras. They tend to get the image. I've also used Panasonic p&S cameras without problem. Panasonic lenses usually start at 28mm instead of in somewhere in the 30's like Canons..

Go try them out at a box store then buy one. You won't go wrong with any of them...

I have an S5 and love it for everything it can do. The add on accessories are second to none. For instance I have an add on macro lens and a tc. There is a forum dedicated to that series camera...google s3users.com The only down side for me is shooting in really low light and sports which can be expected w/ a p/s camera. Hope this helps...

My wife has both canon s51s & sony H50.She uses one camera for one thing and the other camera for otherthings. It's a toss up between these 2 .Best to go to camera sgop and handle both cameras and see whichone "feels right"...

Keep on shooting.....

I've had my Canon S5 for a month and enjoy it (admittedly biased towards Canon).

There are flickr groups for these cameras including the Panasonic FZ18, there are advantages and disadvantages discussed there, also Canon cameras can run extra programs that enhance functionsi.e. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK.

Any of those is fine.

If you want samples and finer points of discussion about the attributes you can go the respective camera flickr groups.

Ok ill buy Panasonic Fz18....

Just one last question I saw some beautiful close up photograps taken by FZ18 so for taking that kind of photos do I have to buy additional macro lens??.

Thanks..

Fz18 has "tele macro" feature(one of the few superzooms that does) so it can blur the background for macro even when zooming at 18x..

FYI all cameras have this. And it's not true macro (it's a close-up). I don't know any P&S that can do macro shots (meaning 1:1) without macro lens.VictorBucuresti, Romaniahttp://s106.photobucket.com/albums/m268/victor_petcu/http://picasaweb.google.com/teodor.nitica/..

True.

But the macro on many cameras such as the Canon S5 show a nice detailed close-up image.

Either one is going to be perfect..

The differences are so slight, that in the real world, there is no difference ..

See which one feels more natural, in your own hands.Which one seems to be easier to use, adjust, carry, etc. Then buy it..

Few years back, my Wife just wants a little camera that takes good pictures..

Of course, she wanted a camera that would deliver an image, equal to my own images, which I got from equipment which costs many thousands of dollars more..

It took almoost 3 years and about 7 different Point-n-Shoot camera bodies, before she was happy. She has a Canon S3 IS..

Practically all her friends now shoot Canon S3's or S5's , and without exception, every single person loves their camera..

The Sony is every bit as good.Dave PattersonMidwestshutterbug.com'When the light and composition are strong, nobodynotices things like resolution or pincushion distortion'Gary Friedman..

I hated the Sony H9 EVF. It's too small and gave me eye strain..

I didnt care for the S5 EVF either;however, you could atleast turn the LCD all the way...
