I will be teaching digital photogaphy to high school students in the fall. We need a very easy-to-read book with basic steps. Any suggestions? Virginia Wilson..
Has anybody used the canona80 camera and what do you think of it ???..
This one is a must have for all beginner...Cheao and portable. Easy to read and very nice written. It will be good enough for you to teach a class for at least 4 to 5 1 to 1.5 hrs lessons. If you bring them out for field practice and add in some of your own stuff such as basic concepts of light, concepts of digital photography and difference between digital and optical process..., I think it can be good for 10 lessons. The book's name is :.
Digital Photography Pocket Guide (Second Edition), by Derrick Story and published by O'reilly. The book is about 100 pages only, very easy to read and absorb (good for slow readers). One drawback is the format is a little like a small photography dictionary so the flow may not be as smooth as you want it as of the traditional text. (But well, it's a pocket reference book...so it's acceptable. Just rearrange your flow a little.) Cheap price, you can order it at around 10 dollars on the web...good price for high school kids...and us. The book did not talk too much about digital darkroom tho.
But you can always make your own notes on that given that you dont want to go into too much details since it's a basic class. Hope this help.
One concern is that the students may finish the hole book in 1 day and they dont need to sit in the class anymore.....
A80 is all good. One of the best in it's class except that the 4Mega Pix is not good enough for print anything more than 4x5.
Also, it's cycle time is a bit too long and shutter lag is slow. Try use Ultra SD card to improve it.
Besides that, I don't see much weakness on the camera. It will be all good for either Auto P&S users or people who want to controls...
Take a look at shortcourses.com and follow the "Yellow Brick Road." I think you can set a curriculum from there...
Now you have the acroymns, just be aware.
Both these lenes are very similar with the price of the G being about 270 Can while the other is almost 3x times as much. I have used both with my D1 and D2X. They both suffer one flaw.
Which many reviews and tests have noted out and I have tested and seen myself while using the lens. When used at full zoom 250-300 wide open there is a slight BUT "noticable" softness in the image. You my not mind this but I do. I recently replaced my 70-300 AF model with a VR 80 to 200. It has a silent wave motor and for action stuff is much more more suitable. The 70-300 is a slow poke.
The 80 to 400 is a better faster model. You pay alot more but that price gives you more freedom and no softness on full zoom round 2000.00 Canadian. For me, the improvement in optics and speed of the motor, along with VR have been well worth the price difference. ms..
I am currently reading Real World Digital Photography 2nd Edition by Sean Duggan and Tim Grey. I found this book very informative, helpful and easy to understand. I would recommend it...
Hi You can try looking at this great website:.
Http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?endeca=1&isbn=1579905781&itm=1 I found this book to be absolutely awesome. Very colorful photos and the author adds some good humor. It has some technical information, but is geared more for technique. I am a beginner to digital (and 35mm for that matter) photography and have thoroughly enjoyed this book...
Hi Virginia, I have been in your position also. If you students have access to PCs then you can't do better than the Alienideas e-book with video clips - excellent as course notes or stand alone content tha you can teach as you go through it - covers many more subjects than traditional books and students can zoom right into pictures and video. Have a look at www.alienideas.com I phoned Alienideas and as a teacher got a discount for my students of 35% - I happily suggest you have a look and make your own mind up. best wishes Terry..
I recently had a book out from the library I liked: How to do everything with your digital camera by Dave Johnson..
I bought and liked the Alienideas DVD - I copied this from their website at www.alienideas.com - I asked for a discount but did not get one as I was only after 2 copies - my local university did however but only after I had bought mine Nice format - very useful for distance learning - lots of good reviews - if you're an educator I think they will give you a review copy first before you buy them. Cheers Mo..
