Hi!.

I think your sample is a couple of stops overexposed. also, I think the subject is too centered. but that is just me..

Happy shooting!.

I agree that the photo is too centered..

I like it..

Add a contrast layer mask and a little USM and it look sharper with a more appealing tone curve ( at least to me )..

Anyhow, experiment a bit in post processing - you can't hurt it. .

Someone said it was too centered. Another view is that it has an interesting symmetry. They are both valid view points..

Too centered I do no understand. How can you follow the rule of 3rds on a bunch of flowers? Should they show the left ones or the right ones? Shoud they be to the right or left, up or down, not clear to me?.

On my display somewhat over exposed. However that is my display even though it is calibrated it is not your display. Check for areas above 250 on the histogram..

The rule of thirds is just another rule to be broken. I like to apply it to people portraits, birds flying, cars racing, etc. However a bunch of flowers should fill the picture. Check Van Gogh Sunflowers VBG..

By the way nice picture!.

Let the light in!.

Well, it IS too centered. But the idea was to show the whole bunch of flowers, right? So I think you did a good job, because it's really symmetric..

Also it can be my monitor, but it seems a bit overexposured, should've more contrast on the upper part of the bunch..

Easy mistakes to fix Nice picture nonetheless..

Thanks for the criticism. Very helpful. I see what some of you mean about the image being over-exposed. Quite bad isnt it? I think I need to calibrate my monitor, as it shows the background as total blackness. But, looking at the image this morning on my work PC monitor the background is quite light and certainly not black, and the flowers over exposed.....

Not sure what PP I can do to save it, I did shoot in RAW and have PSE6.....

About the composition, I did do a few other shots which were not centred.... but for me this one stood out... (I think I have a sub-conscious leaning towards symmetry- it appeals to me for some reason..LOL!!).

I will try again....

Thanks.

This is another flower shot, on my monitor it looks very dark.....

I like this: colours, lighting, and composition. Sometimes symmetry lends itself to a 'centred' picture. And, note, the centre of the line of daffodils going across the picture is well above centre and almost divides the picture in a 2:1 ratio horizontally, so part of the composition does follow the rule of thirds, for what that is worth..

Best wishesMike..

Great shot! I like this one much better..

For me, the color jumps right out! I think it is better exposed than the first one. also, it fits my aesthetic taste better as compared to the first (but that is just me and is very subjective).

MUCH better exposure now! I can easily see the textures on the petals due to the better contrast. You really should calibrate your monitor (or get a new one. LOL)!.

Also if you have the RAW file of the first pic, you should be able to correct the exposure flaws..

Is this attempt still over-exposed?.

I have done a quick and dirty monitor calibration (turned the brightness up a notch or two)..

Better! But I'd try to lower the exposure by a half stop..

At least I did some quick test with leveling and found that rolling the slide bar a 0.5 to the right gave a nice result..

You need to step up and purchase or borrow a monitor calibration product. Until then you are just like a dog chasing his tail..

I like this exposure much better, and I like the composition a lot. The rule of thirds is made to be broken in many cases, especially this case. Good job...

Thanks to everyone who has replied on this thread. Your feedback has been really helpful..

Much appreciated..

I feel like the flowers are a little off if you were going for symmetry since the flowers on the left side are 'tilted' slightly compared to the right side. The vase is straight up and down, but the flowers aren't quite right..

In hindsight, I might pay a little more time to arranging the flowers to get them level..

Nice colors and subject. Good job.-C..
