Looking for bridge camera/superzoom or compact camera shoots raw
I'm looking for a bridge camera/superzoom or compact camera that can shoot in raw format. (I fell in love with the format after learning how to use a dslr and lightroom) Price preferably less than $400. Lower the better...

The Panasonic FZ50 is the best bridge camera out there at the moment..

The Panasonic FZ50 is very good, certainly, but you might find the more compact FZ18 more versatile, with it's longer and wider lens. It does RAW too. As does the FZ8, which you could get for peanuts..

There's also the new, but very large Fuji S100FS, which got a pretty good review on here recently and also has a more versatile lens than the FZ50. The Fuji seems better at higher ISO than most too. But did I mention it's very large?.

Most other cameras in this category lack RAW support.Androohttp://Androo.smugmug.com..

Or you can go for the dated Fuji S9600..

It lacks the Image Stabilization of the FZ50 and S100fs, but also it lacks the CA/PF problems of the S100fs(though not all is sunshine and rainbows) and it doesn't have the noise issues at ISO 200 and upwards that plague the Panasonic FZ50/FZ18..

It should retail at about 400$ also (though It's become a rare camera, it's out of production and usually the retailers have it as stock).

It does shoot 18M RAW Files (interpolated), but you can work with them easily granted you have a decent PC at your disposal...

It is pretty obvious that you have never used an FZ50.or an FZ18..

FZ50 noise at high ISO (800-1600) is just as bad as all of the other non-DSLR's, except a small number of Fuji's..

At 400 ISO or less, what you read about Panasonic noise is just that.a bunch of noise by a bunch of poxel peepers..

The FZ18 is a nice little point and shoot camera and does have more zoom range than the FZ50, but the FZ50 is a much better camera, with more controls on the body (not menu driven), and also sports a larger sensor, and a much better lens..

I haven't seen the new Fuji yet, although I'm sure it is a nice camera..

I've had a couple of Fuji's and they are nice cameras..

Matter if fact, I recently gave my old Fuji S602Z (earlier model of the new S100fs) to a friend and almost got the S9100 instead of my FZ50, but that Leica lens won hands down..

Fuji colors are awesome..

RAW on the Fuji 9100/9600 is OK, but they have buried it's selection rather too deep in the menus. That Fuji camera wins if you want a 28-300mm lens and are happy to shoot ISO80 or 100 for almost DSLR quality. By 400 noise starts to become an issue for pixel peepers..
