Ok heres another SA. yes the first site you googled was correct. The ISO standard you want is titled "determination of exposure index , Iso speed ratingsetcetcetc. and the number is ISO12232-2006But this one is of more practical use.http://www.dpreview.com/...earn/?/Glossary/Digital_Imaging/Sensitivity_01.htm.

I know what ISO is/does, but what the heck does ISO stand for?.
ISO means "equal" in Greek. That's what it stands for.

OP, the regulars on here are pretty gentle, forgiving, and v-e-r-y helpful on the beginners forum. But there are limits, even on this particular forum..
Asking for the definition of a simple acronym is just asking for trouble. Now, had you looked it up on google, then came here to ask some even slightly in-depth questions, the response would have been completely different..
IOW, RTFM!.
You can google that, if you need to..
Please take this post in the light-hearted nature in which it was intended..

And it certainly does NOT apply to the sensitivity ratings on digital cameras..
There is no ISO rating for that. At most there is an EI (Exposure Index) which the camera manufacturer has calibrated to the ISO standard for photographic film and mislabels "ISO" to make it easier to understand for users unfamiliar with the difference...

I think you are a little out of date. There now IS an ISO standard for sensitivity in digital cameras... (last couple of years?)Regards,Baz..
ISO 12232:2006 was written for digital still cameras. This is the update to standard 12232:1998, originally written for electronic still-picture cameras..
