Is this how lenses typically shipped
Hi everyone,.

I just received a lens I bought from Amazon and was a little surprised at how it was packaged for shipping. Here's a link with a picture I took:

Is this typical? There is some bubble-wrapping inside the lense box itself, but it's pretty thin and I thought when you ship something that costs several hudreds of dollars, you wouldn't just let it bounce around inside the shipping box..

I am trying to figure out if I should be concerned about this or if this is pretty much standard no matter what store you go with.

That is pretty typical of amazon in how they pack goods for shipping..

Typical, but it clearly needs 2 "balloons"... .

I've only ordered one lens from "Amazon" but I think it may have been from one of their "stores". It came with the big balloon packs but they completely surrounded the lens box and were taped to keep the lens in the middle. It was actually a pain to get to the lens box..

The person who prepared the parcel probably did not have a clue about the value of the item and could not care less..

Most manufacturers take this lack of packaging into account and encure their merchandise can withstand a bit of beating during shipping..

I just received my D300... .

It was from Circuit City and came in a box with air sacks on 2 sides. Typical for this era..

This is the way I received a lens I bought from them as well. I sent them nicely worded none the less a complaint email as I thought it was improper, and they did actually give me a partial refund on the lens which was unexpected. Thankfully the lens works fine, but they should do better.A picture is the expression of an impression. If the beautiful were not in us, how would we ever recognize it?Ernst Haas..
