Involving Children in Photography
I have two childrena boy and a girlmy son is 2 (3 in a month) and my daughter is 1..

They are both NOT afraid of the camera because I've spent so much time snapping pictures they both love the camera..

We bought out son a Fisher Price digital cam for Christmas and he enjoys using it though he still doesnt quite grasp the idea that he has to look through the viewfinder on the top of his camera..

Anyway, what do you think are some fun kid friendly places in NYC or just fun activities to do in general..

I know things like the Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Park are fun but I'm looking for more creative and jut FUN ideas. Remember his cam is limited in functions (not that he cares) but most of his photo subjects would have to be within 10 feetI'd say.

Gee, you can take them in the backyard or around the block. I love seeing photos taken from kids' level. It's a whole 'nother world through their eyes!I have a few photos on my bloghttp://alittlegrace.blogspot.com/search/label/Photos..

Ditto - go out with them and everyone takes a camera. Any garden is a nice place. If you have an aviary near by that would also be good. Do pigeons count?..

Hmm an Aviary...Sounds like a cool idea but I have no clue where to find one (Google).

I dont know if pigeons count, no one particularly cares for pigeons... ever, it's quite sad.

Remember his camera is pretty low end, like a 2002 cell phone camera 640x480 w/ 500 colors or something. Pics look like Sega CD visuals..

I think a garden may be a good idea, I could photograph insects, and he could catch plants..

We have them in the local zoo. You can actually get quite close to the birds. I haven't actually tried doing it myself (I didn't really think of it until you had asked)..

Pigeons and seagulls are the Rodney Dangerfields of birds (IMO)..

We purchased a polaroid kid's camera for one of our sons. Even if the pictures are not very good, they will think they are the best thing since sliced bread..

Most of all let them have fun with it..

Best, K..

I'm near fresno, so no help to you there. Minnesota's Zoo has a butterfly "aviary" (not sure what to call it)..

Good luck,.
