I loved Eygpt (Misr)! I just got back from Czech (was there 2 1/2 months). I hauled an entire suitcase full, over 600 meals, then hauled a bunch back. I blended in Heathrow...had bars in the heat (no a/c) and it worked out fine.
You may have a hard time finding ice in Eygpt, but I think you can do Medifast there otherwise fine. You can buy a blender there or bring a electric converter thing for your US cord and that should work too.
You shouldnt have any problems with customs, I havent had..
Ok, re-read your post. Why cant you blend or cook?..
Thanks for your advice! Glad to know about customs, and that the bars weren't destroyed in the heat. When I said I couldn't blend or cook I meant we'd be staying in hotels so realistically no access to microwave or blender I assume? Half the time will be spent on a Nile river cruise boat, I can't imagine I'll have a microwave in the room there. I could do the blender thing (buy one there or bring a converter... didn't think of that). Glad to hear it worked out for you on your trips, thanks for the encouragement!..
If you have a coffee pot in your room, you can have access to making soups and hot drinks. You may want to email where you are staying - you just may find a micro & mini fridge in your room, that seems more and more common now. If you find that out, that will open up your selections greatly..
Sounds like a wonderful vacation!..
Do take bars; do NOT depend on ice or water that's not bottled in Egypt...I've been there three times and there is too many ways to catch pharoah's revenge with the local water.....
Also, a converter may well blow up with a blender...I blew up a transformer with a mini coffeepot in Jerusalem, and a hair dryer in Cairo.....
Can you pack a small thermos jar and use it to make your soups in the morning to take a long and eat at lunch? Also, your shaker jar that came with your food (or something like it) would allow you to make the puddings and shakes if you can use bottled water...
Thanks for the great ideas everyone I didn't realize there were so many possibilities. I think I was overwhelmed by the thought of trying this in a foreign country! I will definitely check ahead with the hotels to see what's included in the rooms, as well as bring a shaker jar or thermos... Fortunately I have plenty of time to plan since it's not until October... !..
Also if you like the tea's or "juice" type drinks those might be ok too..
