How to get better waterfall shots2? (3 images)
How to get better waterfall shots?.

I used Minolta 50mm f/1.7 AF, older Sigma 24mm f/2.8 AF prime, Tiffen Cirular Polarizing Filter, Sunpak ND 4X filter, heavy tripod,Minolta 7D DSLR at 30 sec, aperture for max depth at ISO 100..

After great advice I added ND X4 filter to lens + Circular polarizing filter setup and got following shots..

Anyhow to get better results?.

My previous shots without ND X4 showing more glare despite CPL use:.

What do you perceive as being wrong with them that you need to improve upon?..

Maybe just repeat your previous threadhttp://forums.dpreview.com/...forums/read.asp?forum=1002&message=25006211or maybe use less obvious superglue...............

Take a look at the following thread. Loraine took some great shots of some waterfalls and explains what she did. Maybe that will help you..

Those look absolutely great to me. Would love to get leaves that colour. Cant think of anything else to put in or take out. You would nt be fishing for compliments in the shallow end of the DPReview pool would you?..

I'm not an accomplished photographer but my first impression is that 15 seconds.

Exposure is far too long for good water effect. You need about 1/8 to get the feeling of movement. The referenced set of photos look more realistic than yours probably because a shorted exposure was used although the poster didnt say and I havent checked the EXIF...

Thanks Mike..

Water is really interesting substance to make photo from. It could look perfectly sharp at short exposures with Circular polarizing filter..

It could be semi sharp at around 1/10 sec, it sould be soft foggy at long exposures. Different people like different results. I like them all..

Your shots are wonderful and your use of long exposure to soften the water contrasted to the sharpness and color of the leaves forms a fantastic series of shots..

That saidI would like opinions about the over use of softening water with long exposures I see. It seems nearly every shot of moving water I seen in these forums uses this technique to a point where it is loosing it's appeal to me. There is a lot to be said for sharp pictures freezing the texture of water as seen by the human eye when we view these scenes...

Completelly agree. Could be overdone. If water is only element in image and long exposure effect applied..
